I know Americans must be angry for immigrants on America?
I used to always think them brave to come here.
The process to become a citizen is very costly and difficult so that's why many come.
If All immigrants were to pay their way in would you Americans be happy?
I understand how people might be angry, but I just want it to be made clear here, it doesn't involve racism right?
thankyou for those who answer, I just want it explained to me, i don't look to argue, i'm not well educated on this.
Answer:
First off you should not feel bad for who you are never let others thought make you feel that way. Also my thing with immigrants is they are taking all the jobs and I worked with all Mexicans w/only one other American in a big warehouse we all did the same job but at the end of the week there checks were almost twice as mine i think that was totally unfair. But that's not there fault its the government. Really some were really cool and we became good friends.
"The process to become a citizen is very costly and difficult so that's why many come."
That's kind of the point. Why let anyone in unless they can help the country?
"If All immigrants were to pay their way in would you Americans be happy?"
If they work to assimilate themselves, yes. That would mean they're not breaking the laws, and they're not trying to turn the country into the crap hole their old country was.
"I understand how people might be angry, but I just want it to be made clear here, it doesn't involve racism right?"
Illegal immigrant is not a race.
well hidden little lie re: who you are!!! It is not about racism but rather about Mexicans coming to an English speaking country "expecting" this country to cater to them. Learn our language, Damn it!
Your parents were brave to try to make a better life for themselves and for you. You are brave to test such a question. No, I am not angry. America is a melting pot of many many races and religions. I am guessing but I believe that all races are now represented as Americans.
If there is anything America needs it is brave citizens, so to you welcome.
It is not about racism although a lot of illegals have tried their best to make it look that way. It is and always will be a legal issue! We'd be happier, our immigration system only allows so many people to come here legally and and the Mexican quota is filled until the year 3000! We want to stay a diverse nation not be over run with illegals. That is the fact! Legal immigrants are welcome but no illegals are.
Brave people dont sneak- they face the challenge- wake up and smell the truth!
Most americans feel that the US has a right to control who and how many people come into the country. If 100 people a year came in through back channels, that would not irritate them that much but the volume of illegal immagrants is so large that people are very frustrated that it is allowed to continue.
Now this frustration has to be directed somewhere, so of couse if you are frustrated with the government that's where you direct it. But the government is prevented from stritctly enforcing the laws because of US-based immigrant rights groups and voters who want less enforcement for whatever reason. So their anger then turns to these people who are pressuring the government to not enforce the border.
Unfortunately, those people happen to be recent immigrants, Legal and Illegal mostly from mexico. There's where the conflict comes in.
No it does not involve race.
It involves breaking many laws, social issues like assimilation, and expecting the host country to change for the immigrant.
I am only the 2nd generation from a German family, my husband is the first generation from England. But, our families came here legally, assimilated into the culture and paid their dues (taxes, etc.)
When my mother speaks of my Grandfather she remembers a story of him telling her to only speak in the English. Not German, ever. She was an American so she should speak the English. Very telling of the old immigrant and the new ones.
I am glad that even though your parents entered illegally they went through and became legal citizens. They also seem to have raised an intelligent and thoughtful person.
To be sure, this is not a "race war" we simply feel that 12 million people breaking the law and asking us to cradle them is a bit much. Wouldn't matter if they were Irish, Russian, Polish, Italian, or Mexican. Skin color, at least to me, has no bearing.
To me it has nothing to do with race or nationality. I am disabled, have worked for years & now collect Social Secuirty Disability, yet it costs me nearly $365.00 a month to get medical care. (My income is $924.00 per month). Yet an illegal alien can get more benefits than I can. One of my medications cost $1500.00 @ 3 months. Yes, I am angry, but guess it is more with our governmens' decissions to allow better benefits to non citizens than for the ones who have lived here all their life & paid taxes & into Social Security.
There are some racists who do not want "mexicans" in our country, but the general tide against immigration is for economic reasons.
Imagine that you are the manager of a company. The more money you save, the more money you make. You have an American worker who has done a good job working for you for the past 20 years, and you are paying him $20 an hour. However, one day, an illegal alien shows up and wants a job. He says that he can do the same job for $6 an hour. You are now in a situation where you can fire the American, hire the illegal, and make an extra $14 an hour on YOUR paycheck. That means that you will be making an extra $560 a week per illegal that you hire.
This is good, if you are the boss, but it is bad if you are the American who got fired. It means that you will have to find another job. But it will be hard to find another job, because who would hire you for $20 an hour when they can hire an illegal immigrant who will work for $6 an hour, doing the same job you do?
The only thing left for the American worker to do is go to college and get a better education (but can he really do that while he is unemployed and supporting a family?), or settle for a low paying job, and spend the rest of your life remembering "the good old days".
There is a huge income gap in Mexico. The rich in Mexico are very rich and the poor in Mexico are very poor. The richest man in the world lives in Mexico, but there are people in Mexico who are so poor that they will risk their lives to flee from the country.
If immigration from Mexico (and other third world countries) continues, America will end up in the same situation. Instead of having a strong middle class, we will have a small group of rich people and a huge group of poor.
In short, immigration lowers wages, that is why we are against it.
I don't care if your parent didn't have money - that doesn't give them the right to come here illegally! If all immigrants did it the right way, everyone would be happy! There's no racism here. And don't even bring up the homeless. If they're legal they have a RIGHT to be here. Actually, all Americans have the right not to contribute at all. Illegal Immigrants don't even have a right to BE here.
any immigrant who comes to america {{legal or illegal}} should be wecomed if they come to work hard, follow our laws, and fit in as normal americans do.too many {{{NOT ALL BUT TOO MANY}}} mexican immigrants come here and break laws, take advantage of welfare, never bother to learn to speak english {{i pay taxes based on property i own and on income, some of my tax $ go to paying an e.s.l. {{english as a second language}} teacher for students who arent exposed to english. yet these students' parents' wont even try to speak english, which kinda negates my paying for their special teacher}}...have ya seen illegal-looking people that pay for their groceries with welfare, then load them into a brand new ford truck? i have and im sick of it.legal or illegal isnt an issue to me, if ur here for the right reasons i welcome you wholeheartedly. if ya come expecting my tax $ to let you coast thru life, get out n go home...
Well yes. but also if they go home and apply for citizenship like everyone else. there are people who are in there home countries waiting for a visa and its not fair to them for the illegals so come here and be pushed in front of everyone else.
It isn't prejudice that makes many Americans angry it's that our country as with any sovereign nation has the right to control their borders and immigration policies. When they are violated and our government takes very little effective action to stop this invasion it pisses us off. Also it's extremely unfair for the people who obey our immigration laws and do what is required. Being told by Latino groups that we don't have the right to control immigration pisses us off. And major problem is that illegal aliens don't want to learn English or assimilate to our culture, they with the help of liberals expect us to print documents in Spanish and adapt to theirs which is bull****.
Come to America legally and there is no problem, absolutely none. It's when they come here illegally and drain our resources (food stamps, medicaid, working under the table) that 's the problem. Then you get the jerks flaunting their illegality... like I said in another post let the deportation buses roll.
Okay so your parents came illegally but are now legal good for them I am sorry it costs so much to do it the right way I didn't make the laws. The problem for me isn't the way they are here but for what they do once here If they want to be here they shouldn't still fly the Mexican flag and cry racism for everything as for giving them a free ride I don't agree that they should be given one.
Because it is costly and difficult to BE here is the exact reason there is VALUE on being here. If we let everyone in, it lessons the value for everyone else, which is what is happening now. As a Mexican immigrant who's parents fled impoverished Mexico, you must stand up against illegal immigration! The problem is, most come here and bring 20 people with them and it lowers everyone's standard of living.
Its not a racist issue, if those were Irish immigrants, I'd be saying the exact same thing. Where does it end?
"""If All immigrants were to pay their way in would you Americans be happy?"""
If the ones who came payed their way .. well if they have a job, obey the laws, and may learn some english, and be a good citizen then absolutely.
But realize that there are millions of people applying to come to the USA every year.
More people are applying than the USA can accomodate. Not everyone is going to be able to.
Dear Mex-Amer.
I believe those making racial comments are ignorant. Immigrants provide a valuable service to this country by providing low cost labor in service and construction sectors Americans are too lazy to do. I bet those people making racists comments have no problem living in thier nice $300,000 home built by Latino labor or eating at a restuarant served by Latino cooks. What do you think?
This nation was founded on immigration and I beileve the American people have somehow forgotten that we are all desendants of immigrants. The problem is that the U.S. government is not capable of putting aside partisan politics for 2 seconds to create useful and realistic immigration law.
The other reasons are economic...the U.S. preaches liberalizing developing country economies through the World Bank, IMF, and WTO. However, we refuse to liberlize our own economy specifically labor. The laws of supply and demand affect labor like any other commodity and labor will naturally pool to those areas of high demand (U.S.)...as long as the reward (pay) is high enough to outweigh the risk (deportation).
I don't blame immigrants for this problem. I blame the U.S. governments years of unfair trade policies, world economic domination, and lack of ability to create real legislation to solve the problem.
Sincerely.
If illegal aliens love America enough to join the military and serve in Iraq, they should be welcomed.
Maybe the first article will help you understand. http://www.markberryman.com/humor.php...
Saddy, Its not that Most Americans resent Mexicans being here and Racism does not even counter into this dilema. Its simply that so many "ILLEGAL" immigrants come here, and take advantage of Tax Paid Programs that American's tax dollars have paid into this. Illegals do not Pay taxes, but they take advantage of the programs such as Food Stamps, Free medical care for them and their children, free housing. ILLEGALS come here and expect Americans to learn their Language but if we went to Mexico, we would be expected to learn Spanish.I do not resent anyone from wanting a better way of Life, but do it Legally. Pay your taxes, Get your Green card and learn English. I am speaking of the Illegal Immigrants not the (Legal) ones living here doing their part also and not sucking from Our Government Tax Paid Benefits.
In my eyes it has nothing to with race. To break such a law shows disrespect to the country and many illegals do things like burn our flag, promote racism towards white Americans, refuse to assimilate, use our tax dollars for public programs etc. and make demands. I could give you a much longer list but i'm sure you understand what i'm getting at.
I have no problem with anyone coming legally.
I'm glad you and your family are now legal. Welcome aboard.
The immigration issue is centered on the fact that more people wish to come to the US than it could ever possibly accommodate without a breakdown of the infrastructure and the social fabric of the country. Basically, the things that make the US a desirable place to live. This results in a quota system which is an effort to fairly distribute the "available spaces" between peoples and nationalities.
It's not about money. It's about numbers. It's difficult to get in simply because not everybody can be allowed in or we are sunk.
Large numbers of people bypassing the system (violating the law) places everybody at risk and is unfair to those that follow the rules (conform with the law).
I personally think more effort should be put into determining why and correcting the issues that cause people to want to leave their homes and come to the US. Something is terribly wrong for this to be happening.
There are no doubt people who just hate Mexicans. They are by far the minority. You'll always have a segment of the population like that.
The link is to a video about the numbers. It's all about the numbers not the people.
