Where was our Congress & Senate all these years when it was apparent illegals immigration was a problem?

It's been 20+ years and nothing has been done about illegal immigration, securing our borders or recognizing how much this is costing taxpaying U.S. citizens. Many of the Congressmen and Senators have held these positions all of these years.

Do you think that they wanted it to reach this critical point so they could try to make us think this is a major crisis. They did nothing, they knew what was happening but they had their own agenda. It is time for them to go beginning with Kennedy.

Answer:
First of all it was Bush Sr. who started it. After the Reagan yrs allowed amnesty in 1987, Bush Sr. found an unlimited low cost work force. He had several large companies he had investments in and started looking the other way. He quietly announced to the general public that there was a way to make the citizens happy and to collect a larger amount of taxes from the illegal immigrants. In 1993 a large amount were getting a form W-7 or commonly known as an Individual Tax Identification Number or ITIN for short. Thousands of Americans were complaining that the illegal immigrants were claiming 7 dependants through the year and not filing at the end of the year to get more money in their paychecks, thus not paying sufficient taxes. So then, to be more compliant with the idea of getting a W-7 it was also said that if they had a good tax pay history while being illegal in this country they had a better chance of getting Greencards and Citizenship when they went to apply. When they started paying correct taxes with the ITIN's people started being less upset about them working here. Then with the introduction of NAFTA and many of the manufacturing jobs they came to work in were closed (many factors for that was the NAFTA, closings, moving to other countries, down sizing, ect.) they were taking other jobs that usually paid less such as landscaping, individual contracting companies, large contractors, and what small manufacturing jobs were left. They could not collect unemployment as the Americans could, so they went straight to work. Many Americans have a false idea that if you were working in a job that paid you $15 per hr and you had work for 10+ yrs at that rate that you need to be paid that when you look for another job. Thousands just didn't want to work for less until they actually had to. Many could have gone back to school for free on grants (set up by the federal govt) to help them get a better job and did not. Look people, we can use the "illegal immigration" as an issue for job loss or the greatly repeated complaint "Their taking our jobs!" but the truth is - big business took our jobs and out sourced it to places like India, Manilla, Taiwan, Phillipines, and to Mexico. Even when I call about my cell phone service, a shipment I ordered, or any numerous things we all do, that person I talk to is usually Indian and use an English name such as David, Mary, Sue, or John! The people you need to be pissed at are the companies that out sourced approximately 400,000 jobs to heavily accented people in another country. They are pushing us to fight against eachother about the issue to blind side us on the issue (not so long ago in 1999/2000) about NAFTA and the mass out sourcing of jobs we were all up set about. I say we bring those jobs back to a America instead of shipping to another country. Our wonderful Government is blowing smoke up your @** to keep you from seeing the real issue that is going to come and bite us in the Butt! I'd rather have those working in another country shipped here so when they are paid with our dollars for their service they could pay the taxes out of their checks to help our economy. Many of our illegal immigrants (look at the IRS website) using ITIN's are paying their taxes and still work here! Over half actually have paid taxes legally for more than 10 yrs! Look at the large corps and government officials that have been occused of tax evasion - not paying correct taxes - and the thousands of US citizens that do not pay at all and are paid under the table. Not only do some illegals get paid that way but we have had our own Americans not paying taxes for years. Do they lock them up? Do they go looking for them? No. They are "AMERICANS" but we all look the other way. I know for a fact that atleast 2 people in my neighborhood have not paid taxes for over 5yrs or more. They are so called "Handymen" and "Painters" and have not paid taxes on their businesses and own their homes. And own very nice homes at that.
So when you are looking for a scapegoat for all the problems in your state then look to your own neighbors and government and make a noise, rattle a few cages, knock on some doors, and as I always say "Don't worry about being politically correct, be politically involved." and "Don't be sheep!"
Peace
If they solved problems they would not have the great perks that go with their jobs. and would not be able to create bureaucratic jobs for their family and friends
Planning an attack on Iraq. I still think the two are related.
In the past 20+ years, most average citizens also did nothing. Didn't complain, didn't write letters to their congressmen. Everyone knew and most did nothing. Even a few months ago, people were not posting anything about the problems of illegal immigration on this website.
