Why is it ok to send Elian Gonzalez back but not illegals with anchor babies?

Technically that kid did make it to US Soil thus qualifying him as a dry footer. Thus making him a legal resident of the US but he had to be sent back, but parents who drop anchor babies should not be sent back because of their child. Eventhough their child is a dual citizen. Sounds hypocritical to me.

Answer:
It was a custody matter, not an immigration matter.

It made for good media.
Elian Gonzalez was returned to Cuba because his mother died on the boat trip coming to the U.S. and his father was in Cuba and wanted custody of his minor son.

It was a child custody matter - not an immigrant matter.
Elian Gonzalez got to this country because his mother and stepfather wanted to bring him to this country. When they died in route, his next of kin was his father, who lives in Cuba.

His father was the one who wanted to bring up his child in Cuba, fought for that right (Elian an Uncle Lazaro and his daughter Marisleysis who fought for custody).

You have to be declared an unfit parent for you not to be able to have custody of your child if you are the sole parent alive. We have a big problem in this country where one parent who was born in another country and has maintained citizenship of their native land, will take a child from the parent who was given custody, and take them back to their country. Its called kidnappng
id ship em all back dry foot or not we got more then enough immigrant,s hear already ship em back
Cuba wanted the boy back and it was in the best interest of the government to send him home .
