Dont you think being an american is something common?

i mean theres over 250 million people in this nation and its growing with all the illegals...

Answer:
Being an American is very common. in the United States. Not so common in the other countries, though.

By the way, the illegals don't add anything because they are not U.S. citizens. So your question doesn't make sense.
.
Everyone in the world wants to be an American. We are the best people on earth... Who wouldn't want to be like us. We just don't want anyone trying to do it "illegally"!
There is a difference between a resident of the United States and a true, patriotic American citizen.
There are actually over 300 millions and illegal immigrants don't add the to the tally in any way, shape, or form.
I think there are cultural differences within America such as low contextual approach to relationships, low power distance, heavy emphasis on time, and accentuation of competition and agressiveness.

You do have a point though, that when we are talking about race or nationality, there is really no one who can claim to be the official "American" people. We are a dichotomy of many cultures.
No it is not common. There are billons of people on earth.
