Should a person be allowed to reside in the US illegally?
considering all of these other issues. So what if someone else in the house lured me there...so what if I am poor...none of that stuff is relavant when you want an intruder out of your house! Now, we're not talking about one intruder in someone's house, we're talking about MILLIONS! This is a problem! A huge problem! Bring up my owh ancestry is not relevant either. Whenever a boat load of my people come over, no one cares if the boat sinks or not! And we were truly deperate! So, don't go there... Why do you think Israel is having such a problem with the palestinians? When you just walk in & take over, there WILL be problems--hostility, regret, resentment, no warm greeting, alienation!
Answer:
The answer is no. No one should be allowed to reside here in the US if they're not a citizen. I agree with your example as well.
Think about it - if an escaped convict came to my house and needed a place to stay, and I put him to work in my yard for two dollars a day - what would happen if the police came? I'd be arrested for harboring a criminal.. That's exactly what this country is doing. We're harboring illegal aliens EVERY DAY. It's disgusting and I pray to God that things start to change around here.
Yes!!! dont they say that the u.s. is a free country!
No
Hell no.They should be made to slither back to their own country.
NO!!! What part of ILLEGAL is so hard to understand?
They are criminals for breaking the law. They are invaders! They are not wanted or NEEDED!
No one should be allowed to reside ANYWHERE illegally. Hence the illegality.
My answer is simple.
If you want to come to the US and WORK, I have no problems.
If you want to come to the US and live off the system, take a hike.
We are a nation of immigrants, nobody is native, not really even American Indians who are migrants from Asia.
The liberal open borders addicts are intruding on my life!!

We have been sold out for cheap labor
I think they should! were a country made up of immigrants.
ABSOULUTELY NOT!! THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA!!! EVEN THE IMMIGRANTS FROM EUROPE HAD TO GO THROUGH ELLIS ISLAND (or ANGEL ISLAND). THEY DID NOT JUST WALTZ RIGHT IN AND MAKE THEMSELVES AT HOME!
This is an issue which has caused much controversy over the years and I agree totally; there has got to be a point where someone says enough is enough. I come from England and can speak from experience, no-one - no matter what race or religion should be allowed to enter a country illegally, it defeats the whole object of having a national identity if people can wander freely between countries.
Hell no duh
You don't like the touchy-feely people giving juvenile answers?
I would let you stay IF you earned your keep and paid the equivalent to taxes. The problem with the illegals is that they use the provided services that use tax dollars but they don't pay into it like the rest of us.
When an illegal is found. Give them a choice, Become an American Citizen with all the responsibilities and rights it entails, Or be deported.
Fingerprint them, And process them to identify them, the next time they're caught, it means jail time. No excuses. no negotiation.
Trust me on this, I respect your opinion, The fact you're posting is a great thing. keep it up. Debate leads to consensus on issues, so keep posting questions.
My honest answer to this question is no. Yes the U.S. is a melting pot but to be here illegally should not be allowed. I even believe if your here illegally and have a child the child should not automatically be considered a citizen. I do not believe everyone that comes here illegally is a criminal nor do I believe that they are bad people, but I do believe illeagal aliens cost alot of tax payers money which they pay little or none of. Not to speak o the health costs and etc.
I'm sorry. Did you say "so what if someone else in the house lured you in?"
Doesn't that make you NOT an intruder, but an invited guest?
I don't have an issue with any type of people trying to find freedom from their own country if they choose to do so. My issues with our Great "USA" nation and it's immigration policy and the fact that we don't enforce it. It does take time and money to become a legal citizen here. But the end result if you do it right you can become a legal citizen. Another one of my issues is that "we" legal citizens have to pay for it, mainly through taxes, and other subsidies. My questions to the illegal immigrants is this; Have you every heard of Tyranny-or revolution ? - If the conditions are that bad then maybe one or the other needs to be exercised in ones own country, Not HERE in the U.S.A. As long as "legal" citizens are paying for illegal citizens in any way shape or form- there are going to be problems ex. --hostility, regret, resentment, no warm greeting, alienation!
No.
I do not advocate mass deportation only because it would be a disaster economically. Tossing 12 million people out would cripple our economy. however commit so much as a traffic violation and your asss is on a plane or boat or a container truck to the farthest point from our boarder possible in your crappy little country.
I also believe that all social programs such as welfare, public education, health care, and housing assistance should be denied to these Illegal Immigrants. I also am in favor of seizure of all property if you are found to be living here illegally! Treat criminals like criminals.
If you don't play by the rules you should suffer.
No. There is a drain on hospitals, schools, and social service programs. Many are being paid under the table, or are claiming so many exemptions and then not filing taxes that the government is not receiving the money needed to take care of them. The cost of Motor Vehicle insure is rising sharply because 90% of the illegal popular don't carry insurance, and when there is an accident the US Citizen pays. You can't sue someone who's real name you don't know, who doesn't have a permanent address, and has nothing of value to sue for.
In Denver, CO you can not get a job with the Park and Recs department for the summer unless you speak Spanish. Those used to be jobs for our students.
In Spokane, WA you can not get a job as a teacher unless you speak Spanish because it became easier to train the staff of 100 at a school then teach 600 students and their parents English.
In California they have had to close eight hospitals because minor things like colds, stomach aches and insect bites overloaded the emergency rooms. The ERs are required by law to treat everyone, but there is no one to bill.
In Arizona Cayotes bring families across the boarder and when they get tired they drop anything they no longer want or need to carry. The border towns are littered with condoms that once held drugs, dirty diapers, used feminine hygiene products, empty water bottle and dirty clothes.
In Texas there are entire towns where only Spanish is spoken and if you dropped the people who lived there in Washington, DC - our nation's capital, they would not be able to read any of the signs, or even understand the significance of where they are.
On a bright note the mayor and town of Hazelton, PA are being sued because they have made it illegal for in illegal to live there. Anyone who rents a house to them is harboring a fugitive. The same goes with work because they don't have valid work permits, visas or green cards. The ACLU is going crazy. Funny, I thought it was the AMERICAN civil liberties union.
We have survived as a nation of immigrants because the people who came assimilated.
The nation coming over our border are settling illegally, and they are not even trying to be US American. If they put in what they took out then no one would even be talking about it. The illegal aliens are just raping out land of everything she has.
.
As far as Israel with the Palestinians, that war was raging long before the state of Israel was established after the Holocaust. Both sides can be completely right, and completely wrong depending on whose side you choose to take. I don't ever think there will be peace, the second coming is too soon. Condi Rice described it as "birth pains" Before delivery contractions become bigger and closer together, I pray that there will be no violence, because peace is really not going to happen. They leaders may be noble,. but there will always be small factions that will not follow and create chaos. The best thing is the on the citizen level they can get along and forgive.
Here's the thing -- the US is not a "house." I refuse to accept your overly simplistic analogy. And all of the issues brought up ARE relevant. This is not a black and white issue. It is a complex issue and this is the reason why passing legislation on it is so difficult. In the case of people who come fleeing persecution and seeking refuge here. It has been a HUMAN custom since ancient times and across cultures to provide refuge to people in danger. There is a concept known as non-refoulement and the US is a signatory to a treaty which binds us to assist persons seeking persecution.
My point in bringing up all of those issues was to show you that to broadly categorize all "illegal" immigrants as intruders in a home is too simplistic. Are you saying every person in the US illegally is an "intruder" -- and especially in the sense of someone breaking and entering into your home? How can a person be an intruder if they were brought here by deception and then horribly abused once they got here? When that (we're talking about human trafficking here) happens, in order to make a case against perpetrator (the trafficker), the government needs the cooperation of the victim (the "intruder"). You do agree traffickers should be put in jail, don't you? How do you think they get put in jail? Don't you think the victims have to testify against them? Do you think the US government should put a victim of trafficking's life in peril by forcing them to testify and then throwing them back to their country where they can be killed by the trafficker's network?
Guess what, people do care when boat loads of people come over seeking refuge and their boats sink. Just like people care when immigrants are brought in 18 wheelers and left to die (remember that case? Remember the outrage? People care).
The point is that some kinds of cases, despite the fact the people came over illegally, deserve a way to remain in the US -- BUT THEY NEED TO BE AFFORDED A WAY TO REMAIN LEGALLY. There are already a number of ways that people who entered illegally can become legal. There just need to be more.
Strictly answering your question -- no, people should not reside in the US illegally. If more people could come over legally, they would come legally. In the meantime, they will continue to come illegally.
Living in a town in the south we see many people that are here illegally. No, they should not be here. Because the immigrants are so spread out the Immigration service doesn't want to be bothered with them. How often does the US have to be invaded before the public official will do something about it. If you let ants in your house sooner or later you will have to do something about them. I understand their problems, but can't they learn to exist in their own country. We all have to follow rules and as Americans we should not allow illegal people to work in our country.
No one asked my people if we would allow immigrants from Europe.
I guess what goes around comes around
Not just NO...
HELL NO!
We know the schools are not doing the best job of teaching our kids the basics but I believe they still teach reading, that means that, those of use who went to school should know the meanings of the words we use. The key word in this question is "ILLEGAL" Does our political leaders need to be reminded what the word means. I'm a veteran and I believe in our country, but boy some of the leaders have got to go.
Keyword, illegal. It's a crime to be in this country illegally, hence the name ILLEGAL immigrant. Should a person be allowed to illegally do anything? Of course not.
