If Americans are tolerant of legal Mexicans...?
Fine, illegal immigrants don't want to speak/or learn English, but the Mexicans who were either born in the US or are here legally (most of us) speak Spanish also. We are proud of our rich culture and most of us choose to teach Spanish to our children, grandchildren and so on.So why isn't it okay for things to also be spanish?? If the so-called Americans are okay with legal Mexicans, keep in mind we're not going to forget our culture just because we have to assimilate to the American ways, AND spanish IS part of our culture.
Answer:
I'm with you. I don't understand why we can't have two official languages, both English and Spanish. It would actually be good for us.
I don't have any problem with Mexican immigrants speaking Spanish or celebrating their culture. Mexico is part of North America, so their culture is just as American as mine.
well, if it's so easy for those anchor babies to learn spanish, after already being taught english...then why can't your illegal alien parents and others learn english after being taught spanish
just curious about the priority of your people
and to say "we have to assimilate"... why don't you willingly WANT TO assimilate? you ARE in America now and you ARE trying to become an american right? at least, thats what your people are saying...that they want to be americans now
speak your culture but if you are here illegally we want you gone and don't expect us to be nice about it. Your a criminal. I will not speak Spanish to you and I will not acknowledge your language. Our language here is English. The Germans, Italians, Asians and everyone else has learned to speak English. If you are not capable of learning how to speak English then you are not the kind of people we want in our country.
Because if you haven't noticed this is the United States and we speak English here and you knew that before you even came here, so no I don't think Spanish should be spoken here. I am fine if you are here legally, I don't like it but it is something that I have to deal with . If you are so proud of your culture why aren't you back in your own country? Wouldn't you be prouder there?
I don't care if you speak Spanish, just learn some English so I can communicate with you. In turn, you could teach us some Spanish too.
I think its just a matter of not being able to communicate.
If your culture has served you folks sooooo well, why are you HERE ?
You got that right Babe !
I'm with you on that on that one .
We don't want illegals thinking they are welcome here . If they can't come legally then don't come at all . If you go to http://www.youtube.com
and search for anti-illegal immigration videos .
You will see things that will make you sick .
They don't want you to see , just how much Mexican love this country and that they have already taken over LA .
Also look up Aztec Al Qaeda . Can't believe this is happening in America.
"So called Americans" ? go back to your own country if your so proud and leave us "So called Americans" to enjoy the best country there is without you!
This may be hard for you to grasp, but sometimes the principle of the matter is THE most important thing.
I notice you also speak English, though.
There's nothing wrong with being bi-lingual, if you're that intent on holding on to that aspect of your ancestors' culture. There's nothing really wonderful or noble about it, either - why tie yourself to the past of your ancestors instead of fully embracing your life in your homeland and it's culture?
Many immigrant groups do set out to hold onto thier culture - few succeed. Usually, by the 2nd generation the kids have Americanized, by the third, learning the language of the old country is a chore, and the traditions (which, ironically, have often changed back in the old country, itself) just seem out of date. Some do succeed, though, you see Chinatowns all over the US because the Chinese have a high enough opinion of thier own culture to resist assimilation for well over a century, and between recent immigrants and children willing to be held to some traditional ways, they manage it.
There are an aweful lot more assimilated Chinese-Americans, than culturally pure Chinese-Americans living in chinatowns, though.
I agree. Its silly to expect someone to forget there heritage, once they come to this country.I am polishing up on my Spanish, because I would like to be bilingual.
There are what you call hybrids in this culture.Take for example the Jews. They celebrate passover and some even speak Hebrew.Just let people be who they are, it doesn't make you less American. Some people need to get a life...
"If the so-called Americans": what kind of remark is this. If you love your culture so much and life was so good that you want to teach it to your children and grandchildren THEN go back to Mexico. English is our culture. You come to this country and want us to change to fit you culture Forget it you are the one who needs to change. Respect AMERICA AND OUR WAY OF LIVING THEN MAYBE YOU WILL GET SOME RESPECT.
I don't have to accept crap. At any given time according to immigration policies any other group could be the new majority and a country doesn't change everything for a temporary event.
Spanish isn't anymore a more important part of this country than Germany or Greek or Polish or Irish is.
No-one is asking anyone to forget their culture. Hey...how many Mexicans hang a dill pickle on their Christmas tree? How many Mexicans hang a stocking? We take PARTS of every culture and blend it in. I don't have 1 drop of latino blood in me but I did like the idea of the pinata at b-day parties. So I adapted and enjoyed A PART of your culture. I don't do tacos but you probably never had lettuce bread either. I've had hot chili but I bet you never had cold German potato salad. I ate a buritto but have you had a brat? How about stuffed cabbage rolls? I did tequila shots but have you had Ouzo? I do "spring rolls" have you had chopped suey? Do you have a patchwork quilt in your house? How about a beautiful Oriental garden? Wind chimes? Koi pond? Fung shui? How about meditation? Good southern fried chicken and lemonaid? Good southern BBQ? Greens? Grits? Yes ...Spanish is a PART of our culture. A PART of it. Not the be all end all of it.
Fine with me. How to you say poverty in Spanish, or why is it that most of the poverty is from Latin America that speaks Spanish. I know that there is not correlation between poverty and language, but why do you think that English speakers are not sneaking into Spanish speaking countries. So as you and others are gloating about the remaking of the USA into a Spanish speaking country and it is well on it's way, how soon is poverty going to be as pervasive in the Spanish speaking USA as it is in the counties that you Spanish speakers are running away from. If I was a Canadian I would be thinking about a long wall with a moat
i don't think you need to forget your culture because you should speak both and your children to i want my son to speak both Spanish and English i want him to know both his culture his fathers and his mothers culture keep teaching your kids Spanish that's like telling them to not speak English learn Spanish i don't see anyone saying that to them right so they shouldn't say that they cant teach there children Spanish there culture just at nor the racist Americans who think it is all about them and what they want and by the way i am a white American and i think different than Americans do it should be Spanish to so you know both for who does both me i only know English but i am learning with my son i like the Spanish culture because they show so much loyalty to there family and children and i like that i don't see color or a race i see only people it don't matter that you don't speak the same as me or have the same religion as me it don't matter to me all of you out there who have a problem with the Mexican culture need JESUS
AMERICA...NOT Mexico... THIS IS AMERICA...ALL colors of people from all NATIONS ON THIS EARTH COME HERE. to have a better life...they work hard to have a better life and there are more success stories than anywhere on earth...but in freedom...not terrany. They dont come here and try to force their ways to be #1-regardless of their numbers...they dont move into an area and trash it out-and expect everyone to deal with their lazy poverty filled ways...they take care of their children and their familes...they add to society, not take from it... they respect the right to be able to make a new beginning for themselves and WORK hard to do so. not excepting a free ride with "take care of poor little me" handouts, stealing idenities at a rapid rate..cheating, stealing, lieing, killing, and then sitting at the park all day doing nothing while waiting for their welfare checks to come in-all the while demanding they are the victims and we need to conform to their languge and turn a blind eye to the crimes they have committed to coming into America illegally...and give them their ways so they dont feel abused! PURE CRAP! I as a born American am fed up with mexican bullies who are trying to strong arm us into something that is totally against what America stands for and is all about.a melting pot of every nation...working together as ONE...ONE language, ONE people.of different heritages who are all proud of where they came from, but not trying to shove it down anyones throat! THAT IS TERRORISM AT ITS FINEST...DICTATORSHIP IS NOT FREEDOM!! and why is it if mexicans want to change their life for the better so bad by coming to America when the mexicans come up here, even jumping our borders illegally, they not only dont make a better life for themselves they suck off everyone elses life by their lazyness and glut our welfare and medical systems, trash our towns with their taggings, crime and disrespect and make it look just like down there where they wanted to get away from in the first place? most American born Mexicans do not condone what their border brothers are doing...and your language being shoved down our thoats is not exceptable to legal mexicans or any other nationaltiy! YOU chose to come here.and if any person of any color wants to come to America to make a better living and holds their own..more power to them,,that is what we are all about...but to whine and push to force Americans to comply to the threat that you are taking over and we "better get used to it" is just that a threat...NO one wants anyone to forget their heritage..most of the heritages blend nicely into a great big melting pot of different cultures living as one.this is what makes Ameica great..quit trying to shove your culture down everyones throat and either become an American...under God..ONE nation NOT TWO.ONE LANGUGE- NOT TWO or GO HOME...if you dont like it go back to where you came from and quit griping you dont have a foot to stand on...from a so called American...
I am Peruvian and speak Spanish as well as English. When we came here, my father who was raised in the USA, taught us English. He said, we live in America, we speak English. We spoke both language at home. English to my father and Spanish to my mother until she taught herself to speak and read English. We were also taught how bless we are to live in the great country and the opportunity we have to a better future for us all. We also learn the American Culture and it became our culture.
I did not really appreciated all that my father was teaching me about this great country, until I went back to Peru and saw poverty for the first time in my life. I saw how corrupt the government is that keeps Peru so poor. Also I saw how hard for those who want a better future by furthering their education are stop due to the lack of money as well as the lack of connection to go to a University in Peru. When I came back, I became a loyal American who counts my blessing for living in this great country. I enjoy speaking my native tongue and love to visiting my birth place.
The problem I have with those who are coming from Mexico, is that the majority don't want to learn English, they want the American to learn their language. Many of them want the American to accept the Mexican culture yet show a lack of respect to the American Culture. Many proudly fly the Mexican Flag in the American soil, yet show little to no respect of the American Flag. Many of them want to make the USA to another Mexico and I have a problems with that.
You see my friend, this is AMERICA not MEXICO. WE speak ENGLISH here. This does not mean that we need to forget our language or our culture, it only mean that we must be an AMERICAN with all that it come with to continue to be United as a Nation. To do anything else is to divides us and make us weak and America will cease to be great
How come things need to also be in spanish and not italian? or german? Because they learned English. If you are so proud of your culture why are you here and not in Mexico? My friend works in a school that has a entire class of spanish speakers, so it's costing the tax payers money. Just learn English.
You apparently haven't adapted to the American ways, since you have the nerve to say "so called Americans". What do you mean by this? I could care less if you and your people want to " Blah blah blah" in spanish to each other, but when you speak to me speak English. Celebrate your holidays, but KEEP IT DOWN! Be respectful of your neighbors. I have many Mexican friends, and we are both respectful of each others cultures. You need to rethink things before saying you've adapted. Pull your butt down off your shoulders before you post anything else. Have a nice night.
