I believe "illegal" immigrants are bad for this country, but they are only illegal because we have put such a stranglehold on LEGAL immigration. I believe it can be best summized in a metaphor. Think of immigration as dry beach sand, think of the U.S. laws as your hand --- the tighter you clinch on the sand, the quicker it slips through your fingers. That's really what is happening here. I think if we were more laxed on our LEGAL immigration process, you'd see an increase in "good" immigrants coming to this country. If, for example, all we needed was blood samples, background checks, some sort of career skill or ability, and an introduction to American-English language skills to attain a green card, social security #, etc. I think you would DEFINITELY see an amazing number of "illegals" that would be good citizens willing to submit to that in order to become legal. Therefore, paying taxes, paying for their healthcare, abiding by our laws, etc. etc. I could immediately see half of the "illegals" pledge to become legal if we reformed the laws to make it easier for them.
Remember that when you call them "aliens", etc. etc. that 83% of the country's population can be traced back to an immigrant ancestor from another country. so in essence the only REAL Americans are the native indians that were here before the British Americans decided to invade this land and take it as theirs. Its awefully hypocritical to view any of us as "non-immigrants" --- we are all immigrants in one way or another.
To those that say "they do not respect us", well we don't respect them either at times and they make low wages, barely scrape by, and are immediately judged by their looks rather than just people. Them being "criminals" is no different than the poor CITIZENS of this country that also behave with disrespect... its all an economical situation, not really an immigration one.

No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !

Were the indigenous peoples here at that time facing life changing events like new disease's, robbed of land, killed for having a different belief system and have to find new ways to survive? What made that original illegal migration more morally acceptable than the current immigrant problem?
No, I personally do not see any harm beign done to this country if people come here to work.
Just think of this- If the govt. in this country really wanted illegal immigration to stop , they would stop it. The money and resources to do it exist.
So why dont they do it?

It is the legal immigrants who are receiving benefits and not the illigal immigrants. When you are illegal you dont get a penny. In fact... if you would go and ask for goverment benefit youwould most likely be detained and deported.

No many of them will take jobs that American's are not willing to do. I don't see many American's picking crops, do you? Who do you think built the railroads? Who picked the crops in the 1800's?
Illegal Immigration is a Threat to the American Way of Life Today our great American nation is being invaded by millions of illegal immigrants who are fundamentally changing American society. Notably, a massive influx of illegal immigrants from Mexico is changing the face of the American Southwest.
For most Mexicans, the motivations for this migration are pure - to secure a better life in a better place. However, not only is this illegal immigration illegal to begin with, it is also precipitating a host of problems for the United States of America. This influx is bankrupting state and local governments, hospitals, school districts, prisons, and social services across the Southwest. Yet, the Bush Administration does little. To our disbelief, George W. Bush is considering an even grander amnesty plan for illegal immigrants than was realized in the 1980s under Reagan.
Here at American Defense Forces we like the Mexican people. Overall, we know Mexicans to be friendly, religious, hardworking and family oriented, though some are involved in various illegal activities besides illegal entry. Moreover, it's not that we don't want any Mexican nationals in the United States. But we would like to see controlled immigration and all foreign nationals in the United States identified and documented for security and economic (taxation, etc.) reasons.

At least 10 million illegal immigrants are in the U.S. now, and that'll double in five years." (Dallas Morning News, Rancher in border case backs Minuteman, 04/03/2005) FOXNews.com reports that "public health care in Los Angeles is on life support, where sixty percent of the county's uninsured patients are not U.S. citizens. More than half are here illegally. About 2 million undocumented aliens in Los Angeles County alone are crowding emergency rooms because they can't afford to see a doctor." (L.A. Emergency Rooms Full of Illegal Immigrants, 03/17/2005). The National Research Council estimates that the net fiscal cost of immigration ranges from $11 billion to $22 billion per year, with state and local governments bearing most of the costs. California's tab is estimated at $3 billion alone. Richard D. Lamm, former governor of Colorado, writes in the Denver Post that "illegal immigration today isn't cheap labor, except to the employer. The average family of illegal immigrants has two to four school-age kids. It costs U.S. taxpayers more than $7,000 a child just to educate them in our public schools." (There's nothing cheap about immigrant labor, 04/03/05) In the end, the American taxpayer pays many times the amount the cheap hourly wage was worth to a vagabond American company.

At least 12 American citizens a day are murdered by "illegal Immigrants". Over 25% of the prison inmates in federal prisons are illegal immigrants. Our hospital E.R.s are used by illegal immigrants to the point were they must close down do to the lost revenue from servicing people not entitled to medical care in Our country!
Illegal Immigrants must be prevented from entering our country and any that are here must be removed. If non citizens can be allowed to break our laws with impunity perhaps we the people should decide to take maters into our own hands if our government will not do what we pay our taxes for it to do-namely protect our nation from foreign invaders!
