Do you have to have a passport or birth certificate to get back into the US?

Answer:
It all depends where you are coming from. The U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security announced Friday, June 8, that U.S. citizens traveling to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or countries in the Caribbean region, who have applied for, but not yet received passports, can re-enter the United States by air. This accommodation does not mean that Americans are exempt from meeting the entry requirements of Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or countries in the Caribbean region, some of which require a passport, certified birth certificate, or other evidence of citizenship for entry. not sure, ask an illegal alien
Yes. After 9/11, you even have to have it when coming back from vacations in Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Yes. The foreign nations customs officials check you when you enter, US checks you when you return.

When traveling by air, you must have passport. Crossing into Canada or Mexico by land, sea, or railroad (canada) you may use a drivers license and birth certificate.

You must present these to US Customs upon return. If you loose them, you need to go to the nearest US Embassy or Consular for help. They can help you.
any of work i just us my driver lic it works better
You need a valid US passport. If you're not a US citizen you need your country passport.

Many countries need a visa. You don't say where you are from.

I assume you're a US citizen. So, take your passport with you if you're going abroad.
.
New law requires a passport... delayed somewhat because it seems that they can't vet American Citizens in several months. Naturally I fully believe the Senate in their claim in the new Amnesty Bill that they will be able to vet 20 million illegals immigrants in 24 hours. Anyone interested in buying that bridge in NY.
better check out the governments web sites or go to the ambassy near you.
