Why do Mexicans refuse to assimilate and learn English like the immigrants from other countries?
Answer:
Sorry to screw up your prejudice. But they do.
P.S. I'm an immigrant from another country, learning Spanish - try it. It's fun.
They aren't immigrants, they are invaders...
Just because there are so many Mexicans in thier community that they don't need to. It's not a matter of race or culture, merely demographics. In the past, Mexicans assimilated like everyone else, because they were alone or in small communities surrounded by English-speaking Americans. Today, they don't need to, because they can live in illegal-immigrant-majority towns in the SW, where spanish is the primary language.
Because they are catered to by American retail outlets making sure they have bi-lingual people on hand. If they couldn't buy or trade because of the language barrier.they would learn English.
THis assimilation your talking about takes generations. People who are here now that don't speak English will have children that speak both languages. In turn, when those children have children, English will be their primary language and so on. Eventually the foreign language gets eliminated. How many people here that had late ancestors from Gemany speak German? A minimal amount at best.
Because many Mexicans are illiterate in their native language.
nice!

Maybe because they keep to themselves w/out any outside stimuli. All that is spoken at home is spanish, so it makes it very hard to learn. They work together, live together in large groups. Usually there is one or two family members who, over time, have learned enough english to get by.I feel sorry for the teachers! Must be hard to teach a child who knows no english!
Thats so not true.. They DO speak english its just that since their communities and families speak spanish and that is their native language they rather speak that. Its like if you decide to move to... hmm... lets say China you might learn to speak chinese to assimilate to the culture but you would rather speak english most of the time
Look at the reconquista efforts. They arent fringe groups. People should learn english and assimilate just like my ancestors did and as did most of yours. They shouldnt be coming here and sending the majority of their income back to Mexico. Maybe we should invade Mexico and rid it of the gangs that run the place.
Hey, they probably are, it takes a while to learn a new langauge, and to assimilate will take a bit longer. We have to have patience.
And i want you to prove Mexicans are the only ones refusing to assimilate and learn English. You can't. YOu don't know anything.
Been asking that myself too!! Nice spin people are trying to put on the issue, but they are kidding themselves if they think that EVERY illegal Mexican learns or knows English. A minority do, but the majority do not!!
because there not interest in be come citzes but freeloaders
They are harder to brain wash.
because your ingorant
I think America has made it too easy for spanish speaking people to not have to learn English. I have had quit a lot of contact with different Spanish speaking people, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Guat. etc. I found that the young and young adults want to learn English but the older ones don't and they are less likely to drive or work. I was dating a guy some twenty years ago that was from Puerto Rico, came here and spoke no English. Withing a year he had taught himself to speak English. But he had to, there was noone at the store or reasturant to translate, and americans expected people from other countries to learn the language then.
Because corporate and political America caters to them. There is no reason why anything in this country should be bi-lingual, except at airports or border crossings.
There should be a simple rule: If you intend to live in the United States, you need to learn English to do so.
This applies to everyone too, not just our Southern neighbors. It's insane to go to an ATM and see Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish, French and English on the screen. The same for dialing in to companies. If I wanted to "oprima numero dos," I'd call to a Spanish speaking country.
