Would you agree with Tancredo: Pardon The Agents, Mr. President??

In the wake of President Bush’s clemency of former vice presidential chief of staff Lewis “Scooter” Libby, Rep. Tom Tancredo urged the president to “take it a step further” and fully pardon two former Border Patrol agents whose case has galvanized conservatives. The agents — Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos — were convicted of shooting a suspected drug smuggler and trying to cover up the incident. They are serving 12 and 11 year sentences, respectively.

Supporters say the agents were convicted wrongly for protecting the U.S. border against criminal intruders. Their case has become a cause celeb for conservative talk show hosts and groups that advocate stronger immigration controls.

Tancredo, a GOP presidential hopeful, said that the sentences in the case were “grossly unfair and a result of an overzealous prosecutor.” He also said in a statement that the men were at risk of violent attacks at their current prison cell locations and that their families are suffering. Ramos was beaten by other inmates earlier this year.

“I hope the president will consider providing the same relief to these men and their families that he did yesterday to Mr. Libby,” Tancredo said.

U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton of San Antonio has stood by his prosecution of the agents.http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/s...
A letter to Ramos lets him know he has not been forgotten. It also lets the prison officials know. Letters can be brief, printed out and mailed.
He reportedly has lost 30 lbs. while in prison (placed in solitary for his own safety).
Solitary prisoners are not permitted reading material except for letters (and after a long struggle, Ramos was finally permitted a bible).
Ramos was/is not being punished, yet the punishment rules of solitary confinement were applied to him anyway. (Bureaucracy at work.)

The letters must be addressed EXACTLY as follows:

Ignacio Ramos #58079-180 FCI

Yazoo City Medium Federal Correctional Institution

P. O. Box 5888
Yazoo City, MS 39194

Tancredo is an amazing man! He stands up for what he knows is right.. I respect him for that.. Although I respect my President, I don't approve of his actions lately. Our Minutemen deserve respect! I am sick and tired of Bush allowing them to be punished because he'd rather play footsie with Mexico's president. Police officers are given the right to make a decision, whether to shoot or not.. Minutemen deserve the same right!
Bush is an idiot and will only give special favor to his buddies. Since Bush is trying to sell out the American people to the Mexican government, Ramos and Compean can rot in hell as far as he is concerned.
Yes I think the border agents should be pardoned.
They were doing their job the supervisor was on the scene. They did nothing wrong.

Those that gave a drug smuggling illegal trespasser amnesty should be in jail though.
Bush just pardoned Libby to prevent him from spilling that Libby did it to protect Cheney and Bush.
yeah, pardon the agents. how an illegal alien drug smuggler got immunity to testify is beyond me. he should have been put in jail.
Dude, Bush is covering his own tracks. He's as guilty as Libby of lieing and getting away with it. Of course he'll protect liars. They're above the law.

I believe in freeing those border guards ASAP.
Thanx for the heads up!

I do agree with Tancredo. The sentences of the border patrol agents are way too severe. Bush ought to consider commuting their sentences but based on his track record I am not optimistic that this will happen. While I think Libby is a scapegoat for the VP, he should not be pardoned by Bush - but he probably will be.
Absolutely. It's despicable that these guys are being jailed for doing their jobs. How can we expect them to defend our borders if they can't even work without being tossed in jail? These guys deserve medals, not orange jumpsuits.
Being the daughter and wife of cops, I am always saddened when any law enforcement officer is put behind bars for doing his job. It does trouble me that they shot the druggie and then tried to cover it up. That I don't approve of. One less drug dealer in the world is not a great loss to society and good riddance to him, but I would like to know why they tried to cover up the shooting. Does anyone know?
Let me get this straight:

Two border patrol agents shot and killed a man, then covered it up, and you're rooting for their possible pardon?

Doesn't matter if the guy had cocaine coming out of his ears. In this country, we have due process and everyone is entitled to it (except if you're in Gitmo of course).

Being a drug dealer does not automatically give people the right to kill you. You have your day in court, and if conviced, then pay your debt to society.

When you start letting the illegal immigrant problem affect the value you place on other people's lives, it's time to take a few steps back and get some perspective.
Yes I agree, but Bush won't do it unless he is pulling something on us. He isn't on our side in this.
Thank you for the info of how to write to this man who I consider a hero. It would seem that this demon named Sutton is using this man as a scapegoat, with the goal of furthering not only his career, but also that of the NAU. Some other great info can be found at this site, click on the March for America link and look for links to some of the great speeches given for those events. Also family members of the border agents convicted. http://www.lframerica.com
They deserve a pardon and why they even went to jail is still upsetting to me; They were doing their jobs.. What, does our government want Drug dealers and Drugs in this country? Is this the type of job that they are talking about Americans won't do? Pardon them already.
