So if they all became "legal" law-abiding citizens would you change your mind about them?
I've read the stats on what they cost this country many times.
I am aware it's a stretch, but if this new bill passes and they all decide it's time to put their lives of lies and hiding out behind them, do their best to obey our laws and assimilate into our culture, would you think differently about them?
I ask this because I am an immigrant (legal) and I know how the immigration process is even if English is your first language and you have an education to get here legally. In my native country there are hardly any of their race, but most of the newer immigrants (albeit legal) are of a different race (Asian) and people have a hard time about it.
Because ...
they are a little rough around the edges ...
their manners aren't quite as nice as ours..
they are culturally different with ways and customs that frustrate us and we see them as rude and common.
So I just wondered . if they tried their best ... would we?
Answer:
Honestly it would be hard and I consider myself fairly accepting of people and their situations. The problem is when you reward those who break the law it sends out a clear message to every one to take their shot at us.
You yourself are living proof that you can become a legal citizen.
All we ask is that you follow the immigration laws and instead of following those laws we are now trying to make NEW laws to accommodate for those who broke the law in the first place, does that even make sense?? Where is the justice in that?
Do other legal immigrants resent this bill the way we think you do? Just curious. A star for your attempt, hope you do not get raked over the coals..
Not if they come illegally , no !
You are asking the wrong crowd and will only receive idiot responses like above, you come from outside so your mind is more educated and thoughtful of others.
Not all illegal immigrants are as you described though.
And as for spanish mexicans I have found they are very polite, hardworking family oriented people and have yet to see one standing on a corner begging for money like you do Americans.

.
Unfortunately for many in here is not about legality but race.
Honestly No.
No because they already broke the law.
yes i think we have to accept legal immigrants. we are a nation of immigrants historically so why would we discriminate. many of us are furious at immigrants who get here illegally and do not pay taxes. we can barely afford our own system with our government getting us into huge debt we cant afford. the issue is not that they lack manners / have diffirent cultures. culture is fine. paying your own way and not taking advantage of others is the ethical manner.
They're mostly hard working Christian families and I have no problem with them. We need to slow their illegal migration, however, since in reality they're a strain on the system. Interestingly, most countries teach english in schools as a mandatory second language, but most Mexicans (especially the young females) don't speak a word of English.
No because they can't change how they became legal, they money they already cost us, the time and energy wasted on debating about them, and the way they divided the country.
fat chance
No.
How do you un-break the law?
If somebody breaks into your house and steals your stuff they are a criminal. You can forgive them, but that doesn't take away the fact that they committed a crime.
Only if they decide to let all the people who broke the law before during and after this invasion off the hook as well.
No they're criminals.
yes
If a Mexican , who has never been in America, came here legally, I would not have a problem with them.
For the ones already here illegally, who have been mooching off the tax payers and emergency rooms, who will more than likely get amnesty....no I think they should have to go back to Mexico and not be allowed back b/c they are criminals.
The ONLY way they can be "legal law-abiding citizens" is if they return to their home country and start the process there. They are criminals for being here illegally and breaking our laws, PERIOD! These criminals can't "try their best" to change our minds. The cost taxpayers BILLIONS each year. They don't pay income taxes. Bottom line is that they are sponging off the taxpayer and WE DON'T NEED THEM!
While the Senate's piece of crap will probably pass there, since the Senate and the president don't care what the voters want, the house is a totally different matter.
I highly doubt the house will pass this garbage. Not because it's the wrong thing to do and it will destroy our country. They won't pass it because they are gutless and are afraid of the voters! They are afraid they will loose their jobs.
A new (unbiased) poll came out today. The results are very similar to two others done by the same group (Rasmussen). 50% said that the immigration bill is bad. 20% said it's good. The rest don't know or didn't say.
We must contact congress and let them know we are angry and they will be kicked out of office if they don't listen to the people that "hired" them - the voters! Let the traitor McCain know we are livid with his amnesty bill and that he won't get our vote.
ANY CANDIDATE WHO IS PRO-AMNESTY IS OUR ENEMY AND DOESN'T CARE ABOUT AMERICA!
EDIT: Hey, "Zapata" this has NOTHING to do with race. Illegal immigration is about the LAW! It doesn't matter where they come from. It matters that they are illegal alien CRIMINALS. What part of ILLEGAL don't you understand?
Eventually we'd have to.. but in the mean time we'd still have to lynch every politician that voted to allow it.
I would. But then I am a supporter for immigration reform and legallizing the illegal people that are here now, so I guess it wouldn't change my mind because I am already on their sides, LOL.
No because even the legal ones are problematic.
If they had tried their best, they would be legal like you. Right?
You should be the one angry, more angrier than us because you had to go through everything to do it the right way. And they are just crossing and doing nothing and getting away with it.
Then some people are stereotyping all immigrants like they are stereotyping illegals. You are then put in the same category with them sometimes.
So you should be on our side, you are the ones that worked hard for what you wanted and did not just take it.
No, I would never change my mind about them. There is a waiting list to come over to this country legally. I think that it is so unfair to those who have been waiting patiently and who have followed the laws and it is not right that we reward someone who broke the law. That would be like giving someone who was drinking and driving a new car! My dad's mother and my mom's father were from other countries and they became U.S. citizens the legal way. I have no problem with someone immigrating here legally.
