It depends. Alot are good workers, taking jobs that most Americans feel they are too good for, but at the same time, draining our system, they don't contribute to society as far as taxes go and mooch off the system; welfare, medicaid, child care, schools, etc.
It's a toss up for me. The Mexicans wouldn't come here if there wasn't work for them. The fact is that there is a demand for low-earning employees. Farms and many businesses do not have the revenue to pay the wages that Americans demand, and others have it but won't pay it. So the Mexicans are filling that demand for employees because they will work for less. If they all left, or if we deported them all, then that demand would go unfilled. Many businesses and farms would fail because they would have to pay higher wages to American citizens. The closing of those businesses and the failure of our farms will affect our national (and global) economy, and will thus negatively impact many Americans. So, whether America is better off depends on what perspective you're viewing the issue from.
It depends be more specific. Every race has their good and their bad people including Americans. A whole race can not suffer for its few.

I'm not sure to be honest. A lot of illegal immigrants still pay U.S. income tax. Yes, businesses take advantage of the fact that they will work for almost nothing compared to what a U.S. worker would. If we eliminate illegal immigrants we should expect to pay more for countless items, since farmers and business will have to pay American workers more money to complete the job.
I wish I could understand what they were saying better, but that's as much my fault as it is theirs. I should have learned a foreign language, and they should make an attempt to learn English if they want to come to America.
Hopefully the government can develop some type of alternative to just sending them all back to Mexico or their home country. (there are also illegals from many other countries) Maybe the U.S. could just annex Mexico making it the 51st state. LOL (kidding I'm only kidding don't get so upset)
You know, as flawed as the American system is, it's still a pretty good place to live, that's why people from all over the world have wanted to come here.

Working Americans are worse off.
Business owners or corporations that need cheap labor are better off. Wealthy Americans that hire illegal nannys, gardeners, house cleaners, etc. pay less for services, but many are secretly being stolen from by illegal immigrant servants.
Democrats politicians are better off, as they expouse redistribution of wealth, and illegals will vote for them. Votiing districts in California won't start to check for proof of citizenship in order to vote until 2009.
I pay more for heath care because the illegals use the hospital emergency room and receive free health care, and hospitals raise rates of paying customers to compensate.
I pay a special assessment on my property tax bill each year for the next 20 years to rebuild and expand public school facilities, when 25% of the students in the school district are illegals, or children of illegals. My sons go to a public school which provides free education, free school lunches, and free transportation to disadvantged students, mostly illegals. At the same time, the schools complain classes are too large, elective programs need to be cut because there isn't funding, a constant whine to donate money because of this or that need, etc.
Local and State colleges offer free scholarships to disadvantaged students, including illegals. When my sons enter college, the tuition and student fees my sons or I pay will subsidize the tuition and student housing of illegal immigrants.
I pay for uninsured motorist coverage because the illegals don't have insurance or drivers licenses, and if I get into a car accident with them, none of my medical bills or damage will be covered even if they are at fault unless I carry coverage for them. If I am at fault in an accident with an uninsured illegal immigrant, an 'immigration advocacy group' will help them collect from my insurance company. When I am stuck in traffic or can't find parking, I think most roadway crowding would be eliminated if illegals weren't driving.
The state of California passes bond measures to fund new infrastructure improvements such as new water supply reservoirs, freeways, public schools, prisons, when most of these would not be needed if public resources were not overwhelmed by illegals. The state passes the cost of these bond measures to tax payers, not to illegals who don't pay taxes.
Less government subsidized affordable housing is available for poor Americans It was intended for, because illegals are moving in. The cost of market rate homes and apartments is inflated because of the supply pressure put on it by the uncontrolled growth in population caused by illegals. The wages paid are deflated because illegals work for less. Because of these last two factors in combination, housing is less affordable. Compare the cost of housing in high immigration states with those in low immigration states.
I would rather pay more for fruits and vegetables.

Yet, during that time, Americans invented computers, had a healthy labor movement, initiated the space program that put men on the moon, made great strides in civil rights and environmental legislation, built the largest economy the world has ever seen, and successfully prosecuted WWII against two great powers on two fronts simultaneously. We also got our grass cut, our meat packed. Our children were being watched, and our houses were being cleaned.
The idea that somehow we suddenly can't run a country without an endless supply of foreigners is absurd.
The falsehood repeated endlessly, that immigrants do the jobs Americans won't, is really tantamount to something like this: Imagine the owner of the local McDonald's puts a sign in the window that says: "Dishwasher wanted. $1.00 / hour." Suppose he leaves the sign in the window for a month, but no one comes in to apply for the dishwashing job. "See?" the McDonald's owner might say, "Dishwashing is a job Americans won't do. But there are a billion people in China who work for less than a dollar per hour. I need to import some cheap workers from China (or Bangladesh or Mexico)."
Then he or she will import the worker, undercut American wages, and, as a bonus, stick the taxpayer with the cost of the new worker's health care, of educating his children, and so on.
And politicians will talk about how our economy "depends" on immigrant labor.
A country should do its own work.
