Is it possible to ignore someone's skin color for once?
There are some who feel that anyone who is in favor of constructing a border fence is doing so because they are racist against those south of the border. Others really do dislike Mexicans, and want them out because they fear change. Still others are racist towards those who are anti illegal immigration, but call them offensive names, "rich snotty white people" (if the person is white) etc. It seems like all this namecalling and pulling of the race card is greatly halting RATIONAL discussion.
I ask this: is it possible to sit down and discuss issues such as this based on facts? Facts like the criminal or economic impacts of a decision, not the fact that two people's skin color are different.
Answer:
There are some people who are racist, but the largest majority of Americans don't want people here illegally because it affects the American culture and our way of life negatively. Has nothing to do with skin color.
Is it possible to ignore skin color? No. And we shouldn't. The different genders, races, skin colors, religions, cultures, ways of living provide such wonderful variety. Why would we want to ignore it?
When I see someone of Asian decent who still has a strong accent, I know their customs are likely different and it's a red flag to me to be aware and cautious not to offend. It also gives me an idea of the general area of origin and provides an opportunity for me to learn.
I was brought up *not* to see skin color and worked for a black/hispanic woman in my first job. We were talking and I told her I hadn't really noticed her race. She said that offended her because I was saying I didn't see a big part of her - her heritage, her background, her roots.
So, no. It's not possible - and that's a good thing. Our skin, just as our religion, culture, lifestyle, gender - all tell a story about who we are and where we've been.
Is it possible to sit down and discuss issues based on facts? Certainly. And we have those facts. That's what a large majority of the discussions (on and off YA) is about - the impact of illegal immigration. The truth is that name-calling simply weakens your position and shows you don't have the facts to back up your statements.
I would be happy to, but minorities are the ones with a chip on their shoulder and cry racism at the drop of a hat. Small wonder I would never hire one.
I think you are making it into a race issue, most people against illegal immigration want a fence on both boarders. Its not because their Mexican it is because they are illegal.
Well then my answer is yes we can.
I doubt it.Too many groups sticking their noses into things and the groups themselves are prejudice.Which in turn turns people against those the groups are supposedly fighting for.So then all rational thought leaves when people feel they need to defend their race, culture,or heritage. That's my thoughts.
race is used as a distraction from the real issue. illegal aliens are not disliked because they are mexican, they are disliked because they are ILLEGALLY coming into our country, bypassing our immigration LAWS, wreaking havoc upon our hospitals, social service programs, housing, education, culture, and have absolutely NO intention of becoming AMERICANS. this has NOTHING to do with the race of these people and EVERYTHING to do with this nations sovereignty.
It's no longer possible to discuss this issue without anger. The invaders decided that instead of asking for help they would browbeat and bully America into accepting them by calling us racists, telling us they're going to take "their" land back, and then whining about how they're just wonderful people who only want a better life.
Their approach is getting them exactly what they deserve--an angry backlash from decent American citizens, a backlash that is going to make this country a living hell for all immigrants for years to come.
btw, if you want to see a rational discussion, watch Roy Beck's "Immigration by the Numbers." It's a 14 minute excerpt of his presentation that you can find on the web. No anger or bile, just cold, hard facts.

There are many more than just two skin colors. Color can go unnoticed until the fear of being called a racist comes into the picture, or the best one; please support and pity me because I'm not white therefore I've never had a chance in life to better myself. Most people are trying so hard to be so politically correct they are giving every minority the chance and support to become the ruling majority.
For a great view on this subject take a minute and read this article ; Political Correctness Is Always Having To Say You're Sorry

WE don't have twenty million white Canadians waving their flag saying this country is theirs and demanding rights Look at Mexico do you really want that here. A few million would be ok but not 20 million that's more than the population of allot of states. and if they vote as a block how do you think they would vote. You can't hardly get a job in Miami if you can't speak Spanish Go to Mexico and see how nice they are to you if you do what they do here.
I can. Rule of law. Period. What is illegal for me is illegal for every other color person. What's legal for me is legal for every other color person. I think it's pretty basic and simple. It seems when people break the law it's easier to blame the color of their skin when they're caught than to take responsibility for their own actions. Or blame the color of their skin if it ends up being tougher than they thought it would be.
The grass always looks greener on the other side so it always appears everybody else has it so much easier..but once you get there you find out there's weeds in that yard too and there are no free rides in life. Money trumps any color skin. Money opens and closes doors more than anything. After money is power and it is color blind as well. That's why you have people slaughtering their own because they won't comply.
But without rule of law there is no base to work from that is fair for all no matter what their color is. It's OPPERTUNITY...not GUARENTEED success. So I'm tired of hearing the "race" card be played for everything to excuse themselves from any personal responsibility for their actions. With this refusal to speak English they are also limiting people by race without directly doing so by "must speak Spainsh" in an English speaking country.when we have people of many races from all over the world who are "bi-lingual" since they learned English to come here. So "bi-lingual" isn't the REAL issue when it means "must speak Spanish".
Obeying and respecting rule of law is the only way it can be done without "special" considerations for race.
Now if it is in fact true that getting into this country legally is impossible for poor people..then fine. Something needs to change to allow more poor people a chance to come here. All poor people throughout the world. Not just Mexico because of a common border. They limited the amout of "white" people in order to have a more diverse population. It's obvious then that there needs to be more people allowed from "other" races in the poor catagory because Mexicans are no longer a "minority" and there are too many from a radical group who want to take over this country and that needs to be stopped because they are not looking at equality or fairness but just for their "race".
There is NOTHING in that bill that offers worker visas with ease for any other country but Mexico. We have people in Haiti and Africa and India and other parts of the world suffering worse than Mexicans. We can't save them all but it's not fair to leave others with an impossible task and make it easy just for Mexicans. That is "reform" to balance it out and give poor from all countries a chance. It's not reform when it's basicly an open border for just Mexicans. It's not "reform" when it gives just the law breakers amnesty and a half-assed background check in 24 hours when those who come here legally have months and months to have theirs checked. If it takes 3 days to do a background check on me and I'm a citizen.there's no way they are getting a through background check on someone from another country with multiple identies.
I firmly believe when all is said and done you will find this is a secret agreement with Mexico to pave the road for the North American Union and sell this country down the river and a quick way to do that is to bring in millions of people who's allegiance is with Mexico and therefore have a majority over long time citizens and voting it to existance. They don't have a loyality to America and they won't be loosing something they never had. The American people will. Just watch how it unfolds. Even in this "immigration reform" bill there's talk of the security and prosperity agreement also known as the first step to the NAU. There is so much at stake here and race hasn't got squat to do with it.
People are different colors? I never noticed!
People like you make it a race issue when it is not about race and playing the race card is lame and uneducated ! It is people like you who spred lies, hate and racism !!! Do you understand the importance of being legal and illegal ??? No you don't or you would not be playing the race card. I am willing to bet you are very young b/c you sound like it. I am not trying to mean but you really need to open your eyes and understand what is going on in our country today. Economics, taxes, medical care, health insurance, jobs, etc, etc, are the reasons being legal is so important
