It is possible to secure the border, but the government doesn't want to put the time nor the effort into doing it. There should be more troops protecting our borders, but the government would rather have our troops in Iraq.
No they are not right. The new fence, along with enforcement of all immigration laws will work. If they can not get jobs, they'd have no reason to come here.

Far more important, tho, would be for us to stop overthrowing south/central/north american govts that try to provide more for their people and propping up fascist dictatorships in the same region which oppress their people and keep them impoverished. well they do say you can fence yourself in but you cant fence the world out, i guess if someone really wants in they will find a way. and of course theres always someone willing to turn a quick buck or two to help them
No, it is not impossible just improbable because as long as big business and small business will hire these illegals for penny's on the dollar and pay them no benefits there is no incentive to close it. Until some terrorists carries nuclear bomb or dirty bomb into a major city than maybe just maybe will the American people wake up and demand it closed. We are a reactive society not pro active.
It's not possible for one reason, the goverment knows that if we secure the border, we will face an economic failure in this country. The fact is this, the economy is already close to a recession, and if businesses lose the cheap labor from illegals than this economic downslide will just be provoked further. You dont believe me? Look at the punishment to corporations who hire/have a large percentage of illegals, i think last year for example the gov laid down a fee to companies a total of around 13 million dollars, which is nothing when CHASE utley makes almost 40 million a year, and he's a baseball player...........................
So the message is this, to the american public our political leaders will act like they care but when it comes down to it, nothing will ever get done until we have reform.

We can never make it 100% leak proof,but we can make it a lot harder than it is.
Military style barbedwire, guard towers,electronics and patrols can at least reduce the flow.

With technology, we can watch the borders with cameras (wired or wireless) watching from a distance (for maximum area of coverage) with motion detecting, heat sensing, and light amplification features. 5,000 border guards will study the cameras which detect thermal motion (moving animals) for any evidence of human activity, and 5,000 guards can be standing-by in ready response units.
The second thing we can do is to make it easier for immigrants to come in legally by requiring only a criminal background check, a working knowledge of English or introductory English classes, and a pledge of allegiance to our country. It is a shame that Americans would selfishly deny foreignors the opportunity to unite with them in pursuit of the American dream. Allow them to come legally.
Also, we need to reduce or overhaul our welfare state in order to eliminate concerns about newcomers being a "drain" to the system. Socialism is isolationism, and that is fiscal foolishness and ethnic intolerance. Every European country has a much worse problem with this and also with immigrant violence/unrest because of their socialist policies.

It looks impossible, but the border agents that are currently sitting in prison for doing their job have the right idea, and just think if we pull out of Iraq and Afganistan, and put the troops on the border fully armed of course and follow the lead of the two border patrol agents, now serving time which is a bogus charge and do this all the time. Set up a branding station and brand Illegal across their foreheads and check them when they try to cross and lock up the ones indefinatly that sneak through and get caught and put them on a chain gang.

Not to ofend, but seriously, i've known a lot of americans who just stay at home, and receive their unemployment checks, and do nothing!....Mexicans work the worst and most unwanted kind of jobs!, thanks to them the US economy is so good, so i don't think US should do that....If americans can really take over their own country and do what they have to do, then Mexican people wouldn't have to come.

However ... the United States is no longer run by citizens like YOU or me. It's controlled by multi-national corporations and banks. These corporations want cheap labor. They don't want to pay you a decent wage. They figure why pay you $XX when they could pay some illegal half of that and work him 50 hours a week. On top of that, corporations are outsourcing many good jobs too. The US industrial base is overseas!
American tech jobs are being taken by Indians (from India) and the Chinese. Even administrative type jobs such as accounting are being taken by foreigners.
All the good jobs are disappearing. The whole line, "They're doing jobs that Americans won't do" was created by a slick Public Relations agency. Before these illegals came, guess who was doing those jobs? Americans! Again, big business doesn't want to pay a decent wage, that's what it comes down to.

I don't believe that it is impossible to secure our borders. In fact, I'm sure that the number of volunteers would be enough to cover the United States/Mexico border. I think that is the major area needed for border protection. Canada needs to be watched only for terrorists, but if Canada would develop a thorough screening system in their airports/ship ports/etc., we wouldn't have to have so many people watching that border which would give more to the southern border. Americans don't want to be in Canada and Canadians don't want to be in America and if we do, we aren't so lazy we would go illegally. Canada isn't the problem, it's Mexico and I'm sure that we could secure the border. It would cost a lot of money, but I look at it this way: we either lose billions of dollars slowly every year, or get it over with and deport the millions of illegals and stop the problem before they drain the government dry.
