I have not yet begun to fight! Alright, someone else said that first. Don't give up this fight. Already the number of temporary workers has been reduced from 400,000 to 200,000. When the Senators go home to their districts, they will be getting an earful from their constituents about how they hate this bill. Even if it passes the Senate, the House may stop any; amnesty bill. That's why we have elections every two years.

This is the endless debate between a democracy and a republic. Like a poster once said, pure democracy is asking 9 wolves and 1 sheep what on for dinner!
We have to protect the rights of the minority against the majority, or next time, you may find your group in the minority and your rights being stomped upon.

This country will see a huge rise in hate crimes, more gang and drug activity, the collapse of the welfare system, and probably the formation of militias that will take it upon themselves to protect the border & rid thier communities of illegals.
We need politicians in power that will strike down the amnesty agreement & send the illegals packing.
The honest answer? People will do nothing about the government. How often does an incumbant get voted out? The bill is ridiculous. No illegal family could afford it, or go do a "touchback." All this does is legitimize their presence so they can start to collect welfare, medicare and medicaid. The result of this bill is going to be a huge increase in social spending at a time of huge budget deficits.
This is really a sham issue, its being enflamed to divert peoples attention from important issues like ending the Iraq War before it goes nuclear, like ending the looting of the treasury, like the oil companies running the government, like the dollar collapsing on world financial markets, like the US going a trillion dollars into debt to Communist China, like no health care for a quarter of our people, who are aging fast, and who might be subject to bird flu any minute. There are tons of real issues. Immigration is about as relevant to reality as American Idol. Quit worrying about it, there's more than enough real problems to concern yourself with.
I don't think the Republicans have any choice in the matter. They have to agree and go along with it or they will be doomed by an influx of 20 million new democratic voters when the illegals are made legal. Look at what happened after the Civil War. The Republicans , after Lincoln's emancipation of the blacks, lost the African American voting population because of their reconstructionist policies. A mjority of African Americans still vote democrat to this day. I don't think the Republicans can afford a repeat of that practice again with the Mexican Americans.
We need to clean house. Every two years we have the chance to fire all of the House and 1/3 of the Senate. All we need to do is vote no to every incumbent.
Very few people like this idea, though. They want to throw the other guy's bastard out of office, but they want to keep their own bastard. The result of making this choice over and over for years is what's given us the failed Congress we're suffering with right now. Only by making a different choice can we change the situation.
It's either ballots or bullets, and I think we can still solve this problem with the first option.

This is not an issue of racism, I don't think anyone wants to deny the deserving legal entry to this country. We just want them to do it legally so we know who they are. What's to stop one of these people from slipping into the US with a suitcase nuke or biological weapons? Not a damn thing.
I guess the only thing we can do is vote all the usual losers out of office and try to elect someone who truly seems to give a damn but those people are hard to come by.

They've granted amnesty every other time. They want Mexicans here to destroy this country. It's a jewish New World Order agenda. The International Bankers tell our politicians what to do.
I think it all depends on what the illegals and their supporters do. If they go out dancing in the streets, then yes, expect some Americans to get verbal and worse. But, if this bill passes, and people accept it quietly, then things will stay peaceful. Time will tell, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if we see some things get way out of hand.

What are you basing this assertion on? Opinion polls by companies like Gallop and Opinion dynamics show the majority of people approve of some sort of path to legal status for illegal aliens.
There will be no amnesty. The two major parties are in panic and they are dancing around it until the next election. Same with withdrawal from Iraq. Nothing will be in cement until the next election.
Regardless, there will be no amnesty. A fence on the Southern border, yes, but no amnesty.
The Constitution will rule as it must and should.
First, we must all start writing our congressmen and senators and demand that something be done. The Republicans and the Democrats both have their own agendas and reasons for wanting to let them in. The Republicans want to keep big business happy and the Democrats want to get the Hispanic vote. We citizens are going to have to sand up and publicly voice our opinions. I know some people do and the media makes them out like they are some kind of sub human racist. I feel that most people feel like something should be done but don't publicly say it because of the stigmatism that the media and the younger generation have attached to the topic.
However, we are going to have to. I personally don't care what this generation of politically correct and look at me I'm too cool people think. Most of them don't even have jobs and don't know squat about real life. Do we even get that some of the loudest allies of the illegal immigrants are their children that have been college educated on our tax dollars and granted citizenship on a technicality when they actually should have been refused entry into our public school system and denied citizenship if their parents were illegal.
We are going to have to find our own political candidates, support them verbally and financially. Put our own lobbyists on capital hill, make our interests known. Follow up with letters to our congressmen and senators, organize our own demonstrations and vote out the ones that don't listen to us. We will have to be diligent in our efforts and demand changes and know when to be prepared to compromise on certain issues.
Above all people should not be ashamed to do this. It does not mean that you are a racist or against immigrants. It seams that some of the legal immigrants want to turn this into an immigrant issues and say we are against all immigrants and are racists. We need to make sure that we publicly stand up, and argue against this.
For the record, my husband is a legal Latino immigrant, and he feels stronger about this than I do.
Well about the only thing we can do is vote for someone else in the coming elections. They know we don't want amnesty. they don't want to do what is necessary to send them back home. they don't really want to secure the borders. I'd say they aren't listening. And those people who don't listen you don't vote for in the next election.
I'd say recall them but it's too close to the next election.
