Why is it necessary?
if you come into this country you should at least learn the language.
no where else in the world do they coddle to those that don't understand their language. if you don't understand then your just s.o.l.
i have a company that i employ between 15 and 20 people and i insist that my employees speak and understand english.
and oh yeah... i am a landscaper and apparently some say that is a job that americans won't do and i love my job.
Answer:
Tell me and we will both know.
It is stupid that we were already here and are forced to learn a language because other people came here. We had no choice on the matter and we did not go to their country.
I would feel obligated to learn the language of a country in which I was immigrating to, if I were in their place.
Some of them do feel like it is important to learn English, but there are so many people and companies who wish to conform to the ones who don't, that we are forced to also comply.
Because the government has failed to do its job, the marketplace now demands bi-lingual employees.
The federal government has refused to enforce the integrity of the border favoring political pandering to the needs of its good citizens. As a result a large populace of bi-lingual and Spanish speaking individuals has emerged.
The market place will respond to the needs of the people it serves whether they are citizens or not, whether they speak English or not, weather they have come here legally or not.
You as an entrepreneur serve that market as well. If you find that your customer base is beginning to speak a lot of Spanish, your best bet is to get some Spanish into your workforce whether you like it or not.
The problem is with the government.
There are no jobs in America that require being bilingual.
Did English speakers learn the languages on the Native Americans?
In any case, learning a 2nd language is a good thing, and broadens the minds of the ignorant.
I agree with you. If they want to take advantage of all we have to offer the LEAST they can do is learn to speak our language.I think landscaping is fun also
It shouldn't be required. Especially since there are over 200 different languages known and spoken in this country...not to mention the tourist industry. Knowing another language should be a bonus..any other language..not a requirement.
helps
i know what you mean, but really - is it all that bad to learn a new language if it makes you more marketable? it's ok to expand our minds a little. i know that english is our official language, but there's nothing wrong with learning a second language if it will help boost your business. think about the chinese - geez, they teach their kids english when they are very young so that they can communicate with us for business reasons and so on and so forth.
that is so true but some Americans refuse to accept
any kind of immigrants and their culture even when this people they learn to speak english
you know what I try to say!
"I was born here you don't so get **** of my country"
that kind
I'm Italian American with a strong foreign accent
from my personal experience in this country
is very easy to get discriminate and it does matter
how hard an immigrant try to assimilate the American culture
it would never good enough for them
thats why some mexicans refuse to speak english
Keep landscaping and learn English!
azucar!
Man, it sounds like you wish to say "all foreigners must go"... Lets put it the other way around "why do you take it as disrespect when people do not speak English as fluent as you do?" Have you ever tried to learn other languages? Do you think it is easy to learn another language?
How many languages do you speak?
Take it easy man. Forgive these aliens for not speaking a perfect English. Believe me, it is very hard for them.
Amen.
Funny how when the Europeans came over, THEY didn't speak the native language. No where else in the world do they have such a weird make-up of nationalities either. The USA is not the end-all be-all. We are the idiots of the world and to expect everyone else to have to sink to our level just to be accepted here is a little sad. This country was not founded by "Americans". It was founded by immagrants, for immagrants. Non of us really belong here unless we are Native Americans. I say we give them back what is rightfully theirs and go back to where we came from.
that's why i moved from south Florida, it's become mandatory to be bilingual to get a job.
The US govt needs to cut off that section completely.
Other than remote tribes in S. America and Africa English is spoken. The are country(s) in Europe where they speak up to three or four languages fluently. Because they were taught in school not as it is here as an elective.
But, in S. America and Mexico's slums and such, these people(s) didn't even go to school!
I agree immigrants should at least attempt to learn the language but when you get older your priority's change and they would rather do menial jobs where there's always someone that can help you to understand.
But we shouldn't be so judge mental because WE should at least know the language ourselves..
Nice. I agree with you. but your gonna here alot about the crying little pricks thinking that we are not holding there hands and worrie about there feelings.
