Do I need to apply for green card before i get married, or wait till after i get married...here in US?

i want to get married with my girlfriend, and i dont really know all the paper work that i have to do, so I can get a green card after I get married. I am a Romanian citizen, and i`ve been here in US for almost 2 years. Thanks

Answer:
If you have been in the US for two years without a green card, do you still have legal status? If your girlfriend is a US citizen, once you two marry. she can file the I-130 petition for you as her spouse and you can file the I-485 request for adjustment of status at the same time, in the same package. You need to find the forms and instructions here:
http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/m...

If your fiancee is an LPR rather than a citizen, she can petition for you but you will not be allowed to adjust status and get your green card immediately, because the wait for spouses of LPRs is about five years.
You can not apply for your visa, your girlfriend/wife will have to be the one to sponsor you and submit the required paperwork, the best thing to do is to have her go the USCIS and ask them for the visa package which will have all the forms and instructions needed.
