Why do they have immigrants at the Newark, NJ airport checking my ID and passport?

Who cares as long as they are here legally. The color of your skin doesn't make you less American.
Perhaps because they're Americans, and they are trained to check your ID and passport.
If they are legal immigrants, and american citizens, they are allowed employment in the same way your immigrant ancestors were allowed employment.
If TSA is hiring illegal immigrants, we are truly in trouble.
Relax, I'm sure U.S. government employees are legal.

Oh you are so right! I have to go through Newark about once a month and 2/3 of them are muttering to each other in spanish, and then there is the obligatory obese Osamamama, headscarf and all, at each of the metal detectors. If that isn't a case of letting the fox guard the hen house, I don't know what is.
Yes I agree with you. Last year when we arrived back to the states at JFK airport it was so embarassing for me as an American to see people traveling to the US and asking our airport workers some logical questions only to see that our airport workers couldn't or wouldn't help them because they couldn't speak English. I couldn't even unders tand the m ,they spoke in terrible broken shouts from across the room at people like we were all animals. Where was the welcome to the USA? I really almost cried to go back on the plane and leave myself.It was a horrible first empression for anyone visiting the states.
They are immigrants who became American citizens and they have the same right as you do regardless you like it or not.
You have to be a US citizen and speak English to have the job..or so the job description says...Also I know they are hiring right now so if anyone is interested they pay $14.50 an hour..which is probably more then the question asker makes!!
