Can I drive across the border with my boyfriend w/o too much of a hassle. He is Canadian & I am a US citizen?

I am wondering if this would be ok or if the border guards would hassle us.

Answer:
What ever you do, don't be a smart *** answer all the questions and hand your passport to them if they ask for it. My husband is US and I am Canadian, we didn't have a problem.

Why create a problem when there isn't one?
What border are you crossing?
you have to have a passport, end of discussion...
where are you going?
pay attention you must have a passport both of you to cross the border in any direction!
You just need your passports and if he has an resident alien card i would bring that too.
Typically, you need to show proof of citizenship and photo ID when you cross the border (in either direction). Most people use a birth certificate and driver's license.

You won't be able to get through with photocopies, so make sure to have originals. It will be easier for each of you to get into your own country. The other way, you may have to prove to them that you're not staying permanently.
As far as I know, you need to have a passport to cross from Canada to the U.S. if you're Canadian. To go from Canada to the U.S. if you are American or live in the U.S., the following quote may be helpful:

When you enter Canada, a border services officer may ask to see your passport and a valid visa, when necessary. If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada; however, you should carry proof of your citizenship such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization or a Certificate of Indian Status, as well as a photo ID. If you are a permanent resident of the United States, you must bring your permanent resident card (i.e. green card) with you. For more information on admissibility into Canada, read the fact sheet called Managing Access to Canada. It is available on our Web site at www.cbsa.gc.ca.

I don't think you would have any problems,it sounds like you have everything in order.
Hey girl, everything is in order. Welcome to Canada! Have a great time!**
