Can anyone answer me this? When did we vote for a fence to go up?
Answer:
It may help fence contractors
Probably because 85% of us would have voted yes for the fence, and it would have gotten in the way of this amnesty bill those in Washington are drooling over. That's why only 11 miles out of over 700 have been done so far. They were taking their time in order to get this bill passed before it's finished, sadly.
Not only should there be a fence, but it should be electric with armed prison guard towers built into it.
This is a republic. You voted on the fence and a lot of other things the day you voted for your senators and representatives. People please learn the difference between a true democracy and a republic.
In a democracy every citizen gets to vote on every matter.
In a republic every citizen gets to vot for a representative or two who votes on most matters.
You don't get a vote on everything, they don't want too much democracy
We voted for the fence a year ago at least. But they didn't vote on the funding for it. I think it was tucked in some bill somewhere that finally got passed. They are playing a lot of games with a lot of money and its tough to keep up on it.
Congress voted for it. We voted for congress. It is still a democracy. This is what they are paid to do as our elected representatives. And by the way it is called the: "Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007"
WE didn't vote for it, our fine elected officials have to do something to justify their paychecks (at least in their own minds). They think a fence is going to keep illegal entry into our country under control. Look at all the drugs coming into Arizona from underground tunnels, will a fence stop that?? If someone wants to get in here bad enough they'll figure a way. Just look at all the Cubans that manage to get here and they can't walk in. That's our politicians, throw band-aids on a wound the size of several states. By the way, how many tax dollars is it going to take to keep this fence painted nicely, heaven forbid it should rust or look bad, who decides on the color?
We don't live in a direct democracy, we live in a representative democracy, also called a republic. There are thousands of important things we don't directly vote on, the fence thing is just one of those thousands of things we don't vote on, instead our elected representatives vote on them.
The fence concept is an extension of the model that is already in place all over the world. (Ever heard of border guards?) The suggestion, is that all we want to do is improve the fence that is already there. You act as if this is a next concept or something! Its not!
One of the biggest problems with illegal immigration is that we have no control on the faucet that allows them to pour into the USA at will. There are many who are upset that illegals take jobs of American contractors, frustrated that due to anchor babies, taxpayers are paying millions of dollars in welfare benefits, our school systems are being overwhelmed with Spanish speaking children and again taxpayers have to pay the cost of additional English Second Language (ESL) teachers. Some Americans are just upset that no punishment is coming to those who have broke our laws.
The fence is just a small piece of this very complicated problem. You have a right to your opinion on the illegals, but don't show your ignorance by submitting "democratic society" into the conversation when you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
No...they didn't put it up for a literal vote. I wish they would. I wish they would put alot of things up for a vote. I didn't VOTE for the NAU.I didn't VOTE for foreign companies to lease out my toll roads...I didn't VOTE on government pay increases. There's not a whole lot we get to vote for. I want the fence. I fought for the fence. It's LAW now..problem is.where's the fence? No one had me vote on the SPP.no one had me vote for a whole heck of alot of things that get by. I didn't vote for my electric to double and maybe tripple. I didn't vote for another massive complex in an already over crowded area to be built. I didn't for bi-lingual must speak Spanish.seems our government officials think we're too stupid to have a say...we vote them in and then just go on with "their" agenda.whether or not we knew it was part of the package or not.
I would like for once to get a vote as to whether our officials deserve a wage. I want a vote to say enough.I've taken pay-cuts, etc...time for you to give up something. But they don't ask us those things. Government has gotten too damn big for their britches.
I was in Florida and they did have people vote on a new PostOffice. People Voted NO..they went ahead anyway....??
