What is going on in the Senate, why are they not debating the amnesty?

Today they had a vote for cloture, meaning if enough Senators said YES to cloture, then they can stifle the debate about the immigration bill, in essence shut us up. Basically they're saying that they know this bill is crap and only a few people actually want it, but they don't care.
Our tax dollars hard at work ignoring us.
Because it isn't amnesty. Words mean things, and the word "amnesty" doesn't mean "punishing immigrants who are here illegally by making them pay a fine". If you want to debate the immigration bill on its merits then educate yourself.
Your guess is as good as mine. They tried to bring back that labor bill in a sneaky way, but the guys Reid expected to be in the room to vote on a new cloture try for THAT weren't there (his face was rich) and they have recessed the Senate for the moment.
"Exposing" why don't you look up the 10 year statute of limitations on FUTURE border crossings in the bill and tell us how THAT doesn't qualify as PROSPECTIVE amnesty which will draw ever more.
They're bought and paid for by big business and special interests. Big business wants the borders to disappear. They WANT America to become the North American Free Trade Zone.
Then there are the clueless Democrats and poor illegals who don't even know that they're just pawns of big business.
So what you are saying is that the Senate should drop a thousand other issues to debate one just because YOU want them to. Perhaps there are some things happening off the floor that we aren't privy to at this time. More deals, legislation and real discussion takes place in taverns and restaurants than goes on during formal Congressional sessions.
There's a lot of work going on behind the scenes. The President and his supporters don't want another bill to fail, so they're negotiating to craft a bill that will have wider support. You'll see another version introduced very soon.
It was only a vote for cloture. Procedural. Now they can debate the bill about illegals and amnesty.

what is to debate on the immigration bill...all congress does is talk...when running for office they talk and make promises...when elected they talk.nothing happens..until we secure the borders in whatever fashion then we can discuss the current 12 million illegals until that time they remain illegal and face deportation or whatever consequences that may befall them
The Senate's pile of horse poo-poo is trying to grant 20+ million criminals amnesty! No matter how you slice it, based on the definition of amnesty, the pill is amnesty and very wrong! People may claim it's not amnesty but they are liars or don't understand the facts!
