How many US citizens are married to illegals? Has that been considered in Congress/Senate?
Answer:
Illegals don't become Citizens of the US when they marry a Citizen. That law is long gone. If you don't go through the proper process to become legal either before or after you get married, you are still Illegal no matter what. Those people should have either done it the right way or suffer the consequences.
What does that have to do with the price of peas in Peoria?
The legal spouse should either be deported and lose citizenship OR go to prison.
If an illegal immigrant marries a United States citizen, that person is no longer an illegal immigrant, they are now a U.S. citizen because they are married to one.
Because of this people will pay you money to get married to you (because they want the citizenship) and then after you get married and the person is granted citizenship then the idea is that you just get a divorce and you made money without having to do anything.
Because that person is now a U.S. citizen the wife or husband will not be deported because they are legal.
No, I did not know that it was legal for an illegal immigrant to get married in the U.S.
I know 3 illegals that got married to Us citizens, they applied for permanent residency and got their work permits within 6 months, then later got their green cards. I'm trying to do the same thing but I haven't found the right woman yet.
If an illegal marries a citizen they can become legal if their application is approved by USCIS. You can only apply to become legal through marriage if the illegal person came into the US legally otherwise they would have to leave he country and then re-enter legally. It's a little confusing and more strict than it was before 9/11 but it's not impossible.
It was not after Sept 11 that the law that you are talking about
changed it was before that in April 31, 2001 and what is true, is that if a US citizen gets married to an illegal person that Illegal person will not be able to fix their immigration status unless he was claim by someone Else before April 31,2001. Other than that its almost impossible to get them fix. That's why are a lot of people are fighting really hard to get a immigration reformed that will help a lot of families to stay together in this country.
A large number of American born citizens are married to illegals, however just because they r married DOESNT mean they are automatically legal residents... if it were that easy! No, they do not get out of jail free card, they are at risk just like the other illegal population and can get deported as well & just as fast, even if they have American children!
It just goes to show how many uneducated & misinformed Americans there are who truly aren't aware of our current immigration policies! I guess thats why there is so much anger & discrimination out there, ppl simply dont know.
they get deported. and the spouse and children are left with 2 choices...
1. Wait for the 5, 10, or 15 years their spouse is banned from the US.
2. Join their spouse in their country (if it is mexico, the immigration laws are 10 times tougher).
