How much will I need to save for a trip to India? For 3 months?
Answer:
I'm going in about 10 days. Yeah, its a bit expensive. Your ticket itself (assuming roundtrip leaving from boston) is going to run you about $1500, and then you have expenses while you are there.
If you are staying with family, you probably aren't going to be too concerned about food. You might want to buy a few things, but that is just up to you, so set aside what you think is reasonable to spend there and stick to your budget.
Are you going there for a wedding? Include your gift in the expenses too. You might also want to think about getting your family a few things, but these days, most everything is available in Inida, so I wouldnt worry too much about it.
3 months is a while. My guess is that about $2000 will cover it (as far as expenses and a few gifts)
So, yes it is expensive, but it is worth going, especally if you are going to be seeing family there. Family is priceless.
Do the math:
Air ticket (call travel agent)
Hotel stay - per day x number of days (call travel agent or use website)- depends on where, what kind of hotel.
Food -depends where- road side or 5 star hotel Range $2-$50 per meal.
Car rental or taxi- $50 per day x number of days.
Shopping - for yourself+ gift for friends (like for me). Depends on what you are buying.
Lost wages (for the time you are not here and do not work)
I am sorry to say but as you can see the range is huge...
