Over 85% of the American people was againts the immigration bill?

Here is my question we all know Bush and some Republicans were pushing it, but it seems that the media never asked none of the Democrats or their candidates about their stand on this bill. Can I assume then if a Democrat win the white house instead of a stream of illegals every day we will get a torrent. What alternatives will democrats offer the American people.

Answer:
I normally wouldn't vote Republican but with the illegal immigration situation the way it is, I'm going to have to base my vote on where the candidate stands on this issue regardless of what party they're from.
I DEF. AGREE WITH THE BILL.
Probably something similar to the Canadian point system.
Good question, I honestly don't know what the illegal immigration situation would be like if we have a democrat as president.
I am completely against this bill.. The majority of American citizens opposed the bill.. That is all that mattered. This bill would have been unfixable - and we would have started to see the end of the USA.

Democrats, so I've heard, favor illegal immigration as long as they get the votes.. I assume the illegal immigrants would have been legalized, and we'd have open borders.
I supported the bill, but thought it could be better. I am against a guest worker program and would prefer to have something along the lines of the Canadians with a path to citizenship for immigrants.
it won't make any difference as far as the immigration bill is concerned...it's a done deal no matter who is elected, why do you think it was tabled until after the elections?
better come up with something fast the american people will take, congress as whole isn,t in a great position withe the people right now, think we need to do away with both partys
The majority of Democrats were for the amnesty bill. thank god 15 of them understood that they would commit political suicide if they backed that crap bill. You can guarantee that if it is a democrats controlled government you will see socialism, open borders, amnesty, and a reduction in national security, and more terrorist attacks on American soil, but you can feel good knowing that they will "vow to get those involved". Same out **** story.
This is why I am switching my party. Not one Democratic candidate has spoken out against illegal immigration. I have decided to vote Republican for the first time in my life. I will vote for Tom Tancredo.
I'm for telling Mexico to go the hell.
Pay attention... The Dems for the most part were for it too... Ted Kennedy! Fact is, pretty much anyone who supported it has lost backers. The American people did not and do not want it.. and the stupid politicians better start paying attention!
All of the main dem candidates uniformily have voted for amnesty. Obama, Clinton and Edwards have records for open borders and bringing in millions more at every opportunity.

Only a few of the repub candidates have always taken a stand against granting amnesty.
The whole issue was three card monty. Just a big distraction so you wouldn't notice that your wallet isn't in your back pocket anymore. The bill was never designed for passage- It was a way for lawmakers from both parties to distance themselves from Bush.
I didn't like the bill because we have a system in place for immigrants. A law is meaningless if it isn't enforced.
The current system may be flawed but it has allowed millions of immigrants the better life only possible in America.
What did Clinton do? Nothing. The thing that the democrats wanted out of this deal of Bush's was to NOT have future immigrants treated as second class citizens. The democrats didn't want the guest worker program for this reason. The democrats want all of the people in the U.S. to be treated humanely (food, housing, health care). Bush/McCain pushed this deal because they want cheap labor for their big business friends.
I want all illegal immigration to stop and I want governement to subsidize the farmers so they can pay decent wages and health care to whomever they hire.
I just don't know why this is suddenly a democrat/republican issue? It should be about breaking the law. A law is a law. If you don't follow the law, then pay the price. For illegal people in this country, that means, get out and stay out if you cannot follow the laws of the land you so "desperately" want to live in, then why should you be welcome here? Like we don't have enough criminals and why should you be special and allowed to stay when you can't respect the country you coming to or follow the laws here or learn the language? To me that is disrespectful. If you want to be a citizen of any other country than your own, then you must be willing and able to do it right. Follow the laws, learn the language, stop expecting special treatment, and keep your nasty diseases out. That will get you started in the right path to citizenship.
I immigrated legally, many years ago. It is not fair to give lawbreakers a reward. Anyone who wants to reside in an English speaking country, must learn the language. I never expected that forms would be printed in my native language etc. it is outright favoritism and must stop. I just hope the Democrats will be fair about this issue.
I don't think it matters who is in power where this issue is concerned. Neither party has shown any interest in actually enforcing the immigration laws. This is the reason why they kept pushing this bill. It was an amnesty and by making them legal Congress could again ignore the law for another twenty years. Just like they did after the 86 law. The reason it failed was because the people finally stood up and made their voices heard loud and clear. Democrats did not respond as strongly as Republicans to the call, but this is because they believe they are in better position going into the next election than the Republicans. Make no mistake though, both parties are controlled by special interests and both have no real intention of enforcing the law no matter what it is.
There are some Democrats that was against the bill, but the bulk of the resistance came from the Republicans. Even though teh Democratic party are more likely to put pressur on its member to vote in unison that the Americans, the Democratic party is a more diverse party than the Rpeublican. At least we should be glad that the Republicans are far more willing to break party ranks.
Actually, President Bush, who has some experience in this matter (unlike virtually every other matter) was a cattle-rancher in Texas, speaks kinda bad Spanish, and was right there AGAINST the bill, along with the Democrats.

The TRUTH about illegal aliens is this: if they did not cross the Mexican border (they're not coming in from Canada, or by 'plane, so they pretty much have to be crossing the Gulf of Mexico, or the Mexican border), the prices of the fruit and vegetables they pick, for submininum wages, under inhuman conditions would go up so high, that it would be unprofitable for farmers in the US to grow them. People would buy imports, because no legal resident of the USA can be made to work like a slave, and live like a dog. It's the law.

The sad truth is that without illegal immigrant workers, the US economy would be in worse shape than it is now. It is not going to be a torrent... because if there are too many, they get paid LESS. They don't have flush toilets. They don't have decent places to sleep. There is a tuberculosis epidemic among itinerant farm workers. They get nothing from the government. They make US farming profitable. They send what little they are paid, back home, where it's worth something.

The average life-expectancy of a working-class legal resident male in the US is about 79 years.

The average life-expectancy of a working-class illegal labouring male in the US is about 49 years.

You got nothing to worry about, man.
I think that on both sides Democrat as well as Republican they agree that the borders need to be strengthened as well as secured but the real driving spike between the two parties on this issue is that they can't agree on what to do with the illegals here in the US. As we saw a week ago when the vote failed to pass Republicans as well as Democrats are extremely varied on their opinions of this issue.
85% against the bill? Where are your facts?
