Can you change from an E2 to an H1B without leaving the US for more than a few days?

I want to work for a different company, or even just have the option to do so. I don't want to leave my life here in new york for more than a few weeks max. I want there to be no great risk of not continuing to live in new york..Is an H1B the answer? Can I apply confidentially from my current employer and sponsored by a prospective employer?. I want I want I want...

Answer:
Tell me about how you feel.

As long as you have been in status before an employer sponsors you for H1b you should be fine. You do not need to go out of the country to change your status. Once you go out of the country you need to get your H1B visa stamped. You dont need to tell your current employer about your plans. H1b quota for Oct 1st 07- Oct1st 08 starts on Apr 1st 07.
