Why, oh, WHY would ANYONE vote to allow illegal alien FELONS to gain legal status??
I challenge ANYONE who supports legalizing felons to defend their position. I try to stay away from inflammatory rhetoric, but in my humble opinion, 51 senators just broke their vow to defend the constitution from enemies at home and abroad.

Answer:
I think that if someone is applying for citizenship and is a convicted felon that they should certainly go through a more rigorous screening process before they are approved for citizenship, but I don't think that a felony should automatically disqualify them from obtaining citizenship.
Are you talking about someone who has committed a felony while living in the US, or in their country of origin? Some countries have rules and laws that would be considered ridiculous in America. Women can be murdered in some parts of the country for reporting a rape. If they committed the felony while in the US, I can certainly understand the desire to deny them citizenship. However, we must look at each case. If it was a violent felony, then, of course, they need to be deported. No sex offenders need to be in this country, even if they were born here!
As for the bill that was turned down, have you read the entire bill? A popular political trick is to insert a provision into a bill that has absolutely nothing to do with the bill in question. For example, the Senator sponsoring the bill will insert a measure into an immigration bill asking for more funding for highways in his district. They do this with the intention that the other senators won't read the entire bill and will let it pass. I'm not insinuating that's what happened in this case, but it could be a reason.
I have a problem with the fact that so many people seem so prejudiced about people from foreign countries coming to live in the US (not anyone here, this is a general observation). We are an entire nation of immigrants, after all. Unless, you are of Native American heritage, your origins are from another country.
I expect to get lots of "thumbs down", and that's OK. I'm just giving my opinion. I actually appreciate that the asker of this question is attempting to see other sides of the issue by soliciting feedback; we don't always have to agree with each other, but it's nice we live somewhere where we can freely express our different points of view.
Didn't we do it before with the Mariel Boat Lift?
I think it is insane. And instead of the 'no gang member' provision of the amendment they now only have 'no to SOME gang members'. I don't even know the details of that one, yet.
Well, I certainly would not vote to allow felons who are here illegally to have legal status.
I don't get it either. So according to them, committing a crime while in this country illegally is perfectly fine with them. I couldn't believe this was actually passed. So much for caring about American citizens safety.
because they are stupid, rediculous, money mongers
they do not care about the constitution, they care about votes and re election. they dont care about what the people think or say, they care about the extra taxes they are gonna get from the illegals but never have to give any of it back. they care about how poor mexico feels, not how our cities and suburbs feel, they should all be fired, all illegals ahould be deported. and the fence should be finished, and electrified. no excusses, no more lagging to let the most in they can before the fence is done. NO MORE putting our border patrol agents in jail for ten tears for shooting an illegal drug dealing mexican while he was juming the fence. NO MORE
..You know the reason why this passed is because people that don't want this immigration reform to pass are mixing one thing with another.
I definitely don't support legalizing felons but do you honestly think that's going to happen?
No they will create a rule that states that you cant obtain your permit if you are a convicted felon. The reason why this did not pass yesterday was because he was trying to mix convicted felons with people that have had final orders of deportation.
Since the congress knows that most people here illegally have obviously been given an order of deportation then, the bill would be impossible for any one to benefit from it. That's why it didn't pass yesterday.
Please people its common sense they are not going to make convicted felons US citizens or residents because not even the "legal permanent residents or work permit holders can have a legal status if convicted of a felony"
Now why would you want to stop the gang bangers, documents forgers, drunk drivers, and child molesters,
from having have more chances to remake this country for their needs. This Senate has no shame, and as I listen to their tripe, I am amazed at their championing the cause of the illegals over the safety, future, and cost to the very people that send them there in the first place. Each and anyone of them needs to be voted out of office
La Raza wants no felon left behind
So crime can continue to rise in this country?
