I'm French and I married an American 3 years ago in NYC. We haven't filled out any applications, we went to City Hall, had a ceremony and that was that. We would like to start the whole immigration /green card process as soon as possible so we can go to France together. Is it easier and/or faster to get an immigration lawyer do the paper work? How much (approximately) does it cost?
Thank you everybody!
Answer:
it will cost about 2500 dollars with an attorney, but i'd reccomend you get it done, because they will get all the paperwork thruogh. Doing it yourself will take longer and will take longer for you to go on your trip. It's expensive, but it will take about 6-9 months for the greencard process to go through. Since you've been married more than 2 years, you'll get a 10 year greencard. Which is good cuz then you won't have to reapply for another one so you can become a citizen within 5 years.
