In the City of Los AngeIes, I believe you need a Permit to plaster, and you need a state contractor's license to get a permit. Unfortunately the contractor most often hire illegal immigrants to do the job, while they contractor hust signs the contracts and drops of the worker. Most of them don't even supervise the work. In some situation, the city protects illegal immigrant. In some circumstance, the government help people immigrate to help bring down salaries. UK and the US both imports alot of medical workers from the Philipines. Unfortunately it's known they are inferior workers. THeir college degree is not comparable to the US and they often buy their degrees. Cheating is prevalent, and recently a government official was caught giving away the board exam to help the nurses come to the US. Hispitals and the government insist to let them in because they want to hold down the salaries of Nurses, to keep medical cost down. In California, for atleast two decades, the nurses salaries was well below what the deserve. The hospital keep the salaries down despite a huge shortage, because they want to create an excuse for importing laborer. College student see the pay of nurses and stay away. Now that there is a law that forces Hospitals to ensure a certain ratio exist between patients and nurses, the Hospitals are force to raise the salaries of nurses. College students are now fooding nursing schools. We are seeing something similar involving India and the computer industry. There's a video floating around here, where a lawyer is teaching human resource how to avoid hiring Americans so they can hire foreigners. Right now Congress is trying to pass a bill to increase immigrants who are professionals. WIth whats going on in the UK, I doubt it would pass, but Congress has a short memory.
Pretty much ignored, that is one reason why there is such an uproar over all the illegal immigration. They say that they are just doing jobs that we Americans won't do but that is just a lie.
We have the same problem! It's time we get together and change that! What is your country doing to try to solve your problem? Carpenters, plumbers, plasterers, painters they all had the same pay back in the 80's as they do now. Wages would have continued to climb except our unions fell apart because of the illegal workers who started doing the same jobs for half the pay.
As usual, their needs have to come first.
And to make matters even worse, their skill isn't even half of where it should be at.
Well, illegal immigrants usually work for less than an american citizen is required to be paid. Hence why some businesses hire them.
And there is also a recent boom (atleast I think there is) of outsourcing higher paying jobs to other countries where the companies don't need to pay as much.
They ignore it
Ignore it. They are fighting to have more worker visas to bring in as many "cheap" workers as possible..on all levels. They are trying to say we are either too lazy to do it ,or not educated enough. Legal, illegal, criminal.whatever.as long as your cheap..welcome.
Completely ignored by the Federal Government, however, local Governments (State/County/City) are passing Ordinances that forbid hiring Illegals. And that has Illegals super upset, there are groups in the USA with alot of money who sue the local Governments trying to block the laws.
A Journeyman Carpenter in the USA makes about 25 bucks an hour, Illegal Alien Carpenters work for 5-8 bucks and hour.
And those are jobs that are 100% stolen from the working class in the USA. Same thing for any production plant, the gamble a company takes is simple, they might get fined 2500 US dollars (per sweep, not per Illegal). During that period of not getting caught, well they save millions.
I live in Arizona and I have been to Mexico. Most people who talk about "letting them all in" or "what is the big deal" or "they do jobs Americans won't do" live somewhere that doesn't have illegals.
Not only does it get ignored, but workers in the USA (immigrant or otherwise, legal or not) have much fewer protections than the UK or, indeed, Europe in general. I believe the big problem in the UK is that the workers coming from central and eastern Europe are not usually tradesmen as such but semi-skilled labourers at best.
One day, governments on both sides of The Pond will wonder where it all went wrong. Of course, it will be too late by then.
..In London immagrants do the worse jobs for wages we would not consider enough..Think Govt knows this and uses it likewise..
