I would rate it a (- 47 million) ! How dare anyone say or accuse that honoring ones country by having a common language for all of its citizens is a basis for racism. That is like saying we should remove the common flag of our country because there are people in this country that are from different countries.

Racism is just something that people throw out to make it into a different issue than what it really is...which is...you move to another country, then you learn their language (in this case you learn English)..not the other way around...

However, in areas where there are large ethnic neighborhoods, it would be prudent to have certain things written in the ethnic language, as well.
I.E. Applications and instructions for workers compensation benefits in both English and Spanish in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Minus 10. Having an official language isn't racism. It's practical. Most people in this country speak English. It's been the unofficial language in this country since it's been the USA and not a bunch of neighboring territories. It's needed in order to make communication more possible and things function better. Our major complaints when dealing with customer service now is we can't understand a damn thing they say. This is wrong. People shouldn't get off the hook for learning a language and speaking it clearly just because they're brown or come from another country. THat's reverse racism. Calling English a racist language is a racist statement in and of itself. By the way, most English speaking people on this planet are BLACK. All you have to do is check a world Almanac to verify that. So no...having English as official language isn't about skin color. It's about practicality and responsibility and adapting to the country immigrants claim to want to live in. If I immigrated to Spain I'd learn Spanish. If I immigrated to Germany I'd learn German. In America we speak English. Get over it.
