Green Card for my husband? We are in Germany and I have no income and no property in the states? I am american
Answer:
I have been through the same ordeal you need to have. someone that has substantial income can vouch for / with you and your new husband for 1 or 2 years . they sign and ultimately insure your new husband can't become a burden of the state until the 1 or 2 year probationary period has past. Good luck with that. I actually had more income than most of my family members and had to have my mom's meager earning compliment mine in order to expedite the process. Damn republicans what can I say. It did work out several years have past, but the level of bureaucracy that recent legislation has added is cumbersome to say the least. good luck and keep your head held high it takes a while or a congressman in your pocket to get it done in a timely manner.
I wish you the best and feel your pain.
Your husband will qualify for a green card because you are a U.S. citizen.
Individuals may qualify for a green card through relatives if they fall into one of the following categories:
- immediate relative of a U.S., citizen preference relative of a U.S. citizen or green card holder, or accompanying relative of someone in a preference category.
1st link - Green Cards through relatives.
2nd link - Green Cards through employment.
3rd link - Green Cards through the lottery.
he should be a US citizen then if he married you and you are a US citizen. contact the US embassy in Germany for the details.
I think your husband will not be able to keep his green card, but any of you children will be US Citizens even if they are born in Germany, since you are a US Citizen. Even though he is married to a US Citizen he still has to live in the US and have a permanent residence there.
Germany must allow your husband to be able to leave the country. America has the right to accept or reject any one from another country who is applying for a green card. He must allso have a passport and visa. You can return unless you have given up citizenship.
your husband will NOT qualify because you have no income in the US! you don't need property but you need to show steady income that is...something like 40% above the poverty level. some percentage. anyways, if you don't have a job, you have no income, so you cannot meet this qualification.
this is why all newlyweds need to get the greencard BEFORE giving up their jobs in the US. you can always move to your spouses country later...but it's important you get that card before you give up your income.
