You're gonna stay a greencard guy for 3 years first, then you have to renew it for another 2, then you can apply for citizenship... that's all...
Go to the US immigation and naturalization service web site. There is an application process and a statutory time neccessary to become a citizen. It took me like 8-9 months.
But that was like 20+ years ago.
The first thing you need to do is contact Immigration and report your desire to become US Citizen.
After 5 years of permanence in the country you are allowed to request your citizenship.
You can do it on line if you wish as I did. You need to complete a questionnaire and answer all the questions. Later you can submit your form to the Immigration department for approval.
In my case took few months to receive my appointment in the closest immigration office. Fingerprints and photo.
After that day only 3 months and I got my interview and I got accepted.
Later a couple more moths and I received an invitation to participate in the ceremony and receive my citizenship as many other immigrants.
I believe it took about 8 moths total
