Why don't we stop providing for them and start taking care of our own people?

Ask them to find a job? Help them to find a work? All but give them free food just because they are poor.
You should go on a road trip to Appalachia and they are Caucasian! Could it be more Social engineering? The funny thing about this question is...Who would really take these jobs? I know for a fact that most people on the street would rather beg for the money than work hard for it..Especially if it requires working at McDonalds or cleaning up for some old rich couple and taking care of their brats! Nothing would change and trust me...We would suffer more without them than we do with them
Round them all up, give them a hot bath, burn their clothes, pump them full of the current crop of chemicals to stop the psychosis, and then send them to the fields to work for their living. Every effort must be made to stop their usage of drugs and alcohol.

Apart from giving the Democratic party a chance, I would say that we can't do much on our own, but as a group we might be able to make a difference.
I know that trying to fix a problem globably takes a lot of time and effort, but a small group of people make a hell of a difference.
It hurts to know that these people have nothing to put into their stomachs and most of them are dying because of it. What I can suggest is to try and get your community to do a food/can drive and take it around to shelters where you know they will be welcomed and appreciated. I also think that instead of going around giving the homeless money (which most, not ALL, use to support their addiction) we should all give them some food, maybe organize a big community effort and get everyone in need in one place in order to help out.
Giving a little can make a big difference at times, and if the government won't do anything about it, I say we should do it ourselves. These are our neighbors, our friends.. can you imagine, if they can't look at us for help, then who CAN they look to for help??
Charity begins at home. Take care of our own people first then if we have leftovers help other countries.

Welfare needs an address. Hard to list which dumpster you live in as one of those. The food banks and soup kitchens (a term used in the first depression) get their food from those who can afford to donate. Out of every four Americans (all inclusive, aliens, welfare, SSI, pension, disability, etc) only ONE works to feed the other THREE. Knowing this, with the cost of gasoline where it is, and food prices fast approaching ceiling height, exactly WHAT would you like them to donate? There comes a point where something must be done, and we are there.
The good ole US of A needs to focus on their own people and quit being the superpower of the world. I understand helping other countries, but if you can not take care of you own, don't try to take care of everyone else.
Sad part is that some of Americans focus more on greed than helping others.and are to greedy to help their fellow Americans.
Our country, the US is the worst in crime, hunger, poverty, teenage pregnancy, air pollution, this list can go on and on.
It's the Government and there is not a damn thing you can do about it, except watch us fall apart. Or be like me, consider a move to a country who takes care of their own people.

Nobody in America goes to bed hungry...maybe they didn't eat a second helping, but there's food enough for everybody. No other country can say this. What we call a "Ghetto" in the U.S. would be considered "well-to-do" in many other countries.
Excuse my ridiculous example here...but look at Hollywood's attempts to make Holocaust scenes for their movies. We don't have enough skinny people to use as extras. I just hate modern reenactments full of well fed individuals.
I'm not exactly sure where you got your number from or whether or not you are addressing the portion of the populous that is classified as the "working poor" or the truly homeless.
However, I actually work in a homeless shelter in Chicago and none of the children there go hungry. In fact if we suspect that children are going hungry they are taken away from their parents. In addition there are services in place such as soup kitchens and other volunteer groups that help in feeding these people every day. And this is in addition to any food-stamps and gov't benefits they are receiving. I can only speak for my small corner of America, but there are services available to people who are going hungry. They just need to take advantage of them.
So, I'm not sure how your question relates to immigration.
we cannot help them; we have to provide for illegal aliens' free school lunch programs,their free day care for their unwed teenage pregnant girls, their free medical and free education, their free healthcare, their bilingual teachers, their relief from high energy bills, their SSi and Medicare; they must starve so that the USA is not considered insensitive and racist; those Americans must be sacrificed according to the majority of our political leaders' viewpoints.
