Italy and Spain have passed there own form amnesty..We have yet to see the out come..I am on the fence about this bill..I still think it will keep many people in the shadows, its too complicated and most don't have the funds and worse want to return back to their country of origin.
This bill is not amnesty.Amnesty means pardon.They are having to pay fines and return to there country.If a criminal is pardoned, it means they are forgiven/freed and no penalty is due...
This bill is amnesty, no matter what you want to call it. It has nothing for the American tax payers except the cost for rewarding the illegals for breaking our laws,

I think the whole thing is a joke, it's insane! They are basically granting amnesty, and they're not closing that border, it's been going on for too long and it's sad. They aren't going to apply for citizenship, the waiting period is too long and they all think they have the right to come here...for some reason they don't feel the need to follow the same rules as everyone else. There should absolutely not be amnesty. Why should we reward them for coming here illegally? The penalties aren't going to be enforced, and everyone knows it.

This bill is horrible. It is appeasement and amnesty all in one. I cant believe that bush has sold us out. This is complete lunacy! Twelve million turn into 40 MILLION in five years. More uneducated and unskilled fools in this country that is exactly what we need. The rich keep getting what they want with cheap labor and the middle class gets squeezed till it disappears. I am so angry I do not have the words. Democrat or Republican there is no difference anymore. They are both destroying this country and I cant take it anymore.
No,I feel this bill will not please a lot of people.The Senate did work hard to get a bill we can all live with.I agree it is not amnesty.I am also proud that a bill was passed.People seem to no longer feel the need to make hard choices. No, I do NOT think this proposed law will solve the illegal immigration problems, at all. It's too complicated and as someone else here said, most illegals will not come forward to apply because most are not interested in citizenship and do NOT plan on staying in the US permanently. MOST just want to make enough money to return home to retire or open a business back home. They will NOT be interested in paying those fines and having to jump through all those hoops. There will only be a small number who would be interested in this. The rest will want to remain illegal and stay in the "shadows" and not pay taxes and there will STILL be those who will continue to hire them under the table or with fake ID. I don't believe they will seal the border and they will not follow-up on visa overstayers. They also need to address the "anchor baby" problem and remove that incentive to illegal immigration and stop allowing them any kind of social freebies, including the welfare they presently get because of their "US citizen" babies.

It will do NOTHING to stop the problem and adds huge numbers on top of what we already have coming in. It will make the rest of our schools like the LAUSD, where the middleclass have largely fled the public schools, mortgaging their retirements to educate their children.

It is a bargain between those who want cheap slave labor to undermine our wages while ruining our schools and health care, and using our taxes to subsidize their below poverty level work force on the one hand, and the open borders types on the other.
Nowhere is there a populist in the negotiations who supports the American people and our way of life, that I can see. And now they are tossing everyone else's pet open borders projects for agriculture and the Dream Act and unlimited H1Bs if you get a masters degree from a US college in on top of that to make up the actual bill, as I understand it.
I hardly see that as a compromise, but a sell out.
This bill will do jack crap!!! Giving the Illegal Aliens amnesty will just enhance the problem. our politicians are IDIOTS! If they, or anybody else thinks that the Illegals will meet the requirements to get their visas, they are delusional. They have to pay back taxes, which I can agree with; then they have to go back to their country which I definately agree with; and then become profecient in english which i agree with; If they would actually do it and the government will have the balls to enforce the requirements.

this is a bad bill. $23billion is sent to mexico from the workers, but if amnesty is provided, then mexico will not receive $23 billion. The 2 largest sources of income for mexico is the money being sent back from the laborers and oil production.
however oil production has started to decline in mexico.
so the bottom line is:
if you think mexico was in hurting status before this amnesty, then mexico will be in much worse shape after amnesty, it will be so bad that the usa will receive another 10 - 20 million (just a guess) new illegals to replace the new mexican legals, and they will undercut prices for wages of the new mexican legals.
this bill will not help anyone and will make things worse..
