I need arguments supporting immigration to the United States?
Answer:
Usual theory is that we want to attract the best & brightest & most talented people to the US, as well as foreign investment. We have immigration policies that are supposed to make this possible (EB1 category, treaty investor category, aliens of extraordinary ability, aliens of exceptional ability, national interest waivers). We also have recognized labor shortages in certain areas (like nursing) that the domestic labor pool cannot supply fast enough (too much training needed to get people ready to do it). Immigration lets us "buy" this talent and import it rather than "make" it or grow it at home.
Not everyone who comes is the best & brightest & most talented or solving a major labor shortage. But just as one must mine a lot of ore, then refine what is mined in order to get usable gold, we have to take some average & even below-average people in order to get the "gold standard" immigrants who can make disproportionately large beneficial contributions to our nation and society, and to have ready access to import labor to solve shortages of skilled labor as they arise.
I see that you have edited the question, so I am editing my answer. I think that getting illegal aliens into the system is paramount, so we know who is here (security reasons) and we get them involved & paying taxes. They won't do this unless there is an incentive for them to do so. A long but clear and legal path to a green card and eventually citizenship is one incentive that might help.
I advocate a filing that is immediate and puts the person into "pending adjustee" status. DHS, DOS, FBI, and the rest of the interested agencies can then do their background checks. The alien pays something substantial (say $1000 upon filing and $1000 per year for ten years, with automatic adjustments for inflation) and gets a green card at the end. The process is terminated (or the GC revoked if issued) if the alien fails to file or pay taxes or is convicted of a crime (other than traffic violations) or declares bankruptcy or leaves a judgment unsatisfied for more than a year. The alien would continue paying the inflation-adjusted fee until s/he is naturalized, and naturalization should not be an option for such aliens until 10 years after becoming a GC holder (current law is 5 years). This would encourage disclosure, increase national security, add funds to the treasury (by fees, individual income taxes being paid in, and payroll taxes remitted by employers who currently hire such workers "under the table") and teach respect for the law without making it a quick windfall. Illegals would have to earn their way to a GC and then to citizenship.
Failing to do this will continue to prop up the black market for off-the-record employment and create a shadow economy for the undocumented workers. They will be subject to exploitation, live on the margin of subsistence, and be tempted to a life of crime that is wholly outside the law, e.g. "if I am here against the law and I cannot lawfully work, I might as well break other laws so I can live here & have money).
One thing you can mention is that we are all immigrants no matter what generation american we are. If we had not been able to come to this country because of stern laws and borders and such we would none of us be here today.
No one is against immigration. Just illegal immigration. So which one are you supporting?
The Communist Manifesto is one place and....History of the Iron Curtain
to bad i have no argument for you . but to say there will be no amnesty for the illegals
I am surprised there will be a debate about this. The U.S. already accepts more legal immigrants than all other countries combined. The sad part is, we are also victimized by more illegal aliens entering the U.S. than any other country!!
Number one; hello? Sounds like you do not know what you are supporting.
Legal Immigration is one thing.
Illegals breaking the law and crossing our borders is anonther; sounds right; be more specific and you might get more answers.
you have to weaken the border to secure it. let guest workers in to fix the problem. in other words it would be a shame to penalize the companies that hire illegals. half the illegals here entered legally and never left.
We have enough people here already. Thats gonna be a tough one for you.
Immigration is good for the country, it provides a cultural diversity that would otherwise be non-existent. How ever, illegal immigration only adds to the strain on the economy. Which one are you supporting in you debate.
Immigration is a great way to attract people with talents. My family came here with scholar status. You get priority if you're a nurse, since there's a nursing shortage in this country.
illegal or legal
Can't have it both ways
you are an idiot. if there's one thing we don't need in this country it's more ******* leeches driaining this country. they smell too
We don't need more immigrants!
