are my children us citizens? do they have dual citizenship at birth?
Answer:
They should be citizens of Canada, I think you have to apply if you want them to have dual citizenship.
im not 100% sure but i think they might not be US citz
i dont think theyre US citizens, because i think they have to be born in the US
sounds like you are a family of canadians now. :)
no they arnt
your children are canadian. The US does not acknowledge dual citizenship.
no they are Canadian citizens. You have to be born in the US to be a citizen or get a pass.
yes, yes
register the kids at th nearest US embassy
If I were you, I would contact a lawyer specializing in citizenship law. Why trust a bunch of strangers word?
hey, if you are white ,then yes otherwise you got some serious problems.
For them to be US citizens you would have to make an application to have them derive US citizenship through you. Ask the US consulate in canada, they will give you all the information.
no, you have to apply for the dual thing. good luck.
I believe the law states if the children are born in a different country ( other than the US ) both parents have to be legal US citizens..
Otherwise, they would have to be born in the US, regardless of what citizenship their parents hold...
The laws might of changed, but this is what I was told when I was pregnant in the early 1990's...
I'm guessing that the fact you became a Canadian citizen (in effect renouncing your US citizenship) means no, they are not.
They are Canadian, eh!
Well let's see.. Did you have the babies or did your wife?? I think that will make a huge difference.
She is a Canadian.. sooooo last I checked she had them right? That would make them Canadian.
they are canadian
i believe they would have to have been born in the U.S. for them to be citizens
you are an amercan citizen, because of that, your children can have duel citizenship if wanted. Check with the consulate.
Yes US does recognize duel citizenship. My Uncle has dual citizen ship .Born US Married in Canada, living there and worked across the border in to the US.
When we were in Japan since my Mother and Father were US citizens ,my brother was born and was automatically a US citizen.
Now with only you being a US citizen I really do not know. Call the Right offices and find out.
no they are canadian citizens.
where a person is born that makes them from that place
The U.S. does allow dual citizenship, check into the rest of the details though.
I am always amazed at the people who opt to answer questions like this when they do NOT have a clue what they are talking about! I am the same as you, born in the US, immigrated to Canada, acquired naturalized Canadian citizenship, so now have dual US/Canadian citizenships. I was told that my son, who was born in Canada, is also a US citizen, but I did not register his birth with the US when he was born. He can still get his papers, but he is 30 years old now and it will be more difficult, though he still says he plans on doing so.
As some people said here, what you need to do is go to your nearest US Embassy and register the birth of your children. While you're at it, you may as well apply for your US passport and put the children on it, too. Yes, this would be the easiest way and I wish I had done so for my son. While the US does not "recognize" dual citizenship, they also cannot take away your other citizenship and they can only take your US citizenship from you if you have ever done anything to "renounce" your US citizenship.
Anyways, bottom line, go register your children's births with the US Embassy asap. Congrats on your twins!
