you're right on. Although there are some prejudices that existed before, we can thank the Karl Rove machine for stirring up these people into a frenzy of immigrant-bashing. They are very good at what they do - they steer the debate the way that the poor and less educated will grasp on to with soundbites and simplistic statements about "stealing jobs" and amnesty- never to the real issues of the fact that they are the party of the fatcat corporation as you say, the party trying to take away voting rights little by little, the party sending young men and women - overwhelmingly poor and minority - off to a pointless war to die. It's the same thing that happened during the Jim Crow and civil rights era. The powers that be were somewhat successful in getting poor whites to be at the forefront of anti-civil rights and against integration by pitting them against blacks - when if you look at it from a socio-economic status, the poor whites had a lot more in common with blacks.

first of all i totally disagree with your assessment and 2nd because they illegals would take the resources from the lower class. they flood their schools with students that need special attention esl, this takes away from normal instruction. the illegals will take away from medicare and ssi as well.

120k a year and am as angry as can be at the current illegal alien situation. I'm not angry with the aliens, they're just doing what they have to do, I'd do the same thing in their position. My anger is directed at the government for doing nothing to stop the increasing tide of illegals flooding the country.

It's not a question of economic class at all. These people are illegal(your own words). They broke the law. Period. They want all the advantages of citizenship without taking the legal steps toward that end. Anyone who disrespects our country's laws this way does not deserve to be here.
Here we go, another wacko that hates business owners! Most of us that don't support illegals are all for hefty fines against business owners that knowingly hire illegals. What this country needs to do is close the borders, heavily fine employers that hire illegals, stop ALL social programs for illegals, and pass laws that you can't rent homes to illegals, and if an illegal is caught performing a crime, after they have served their sentence, deported!

Because the "fatcat" who has illegals building his house, tending his grounds, nannying his children, cleaning his house, working in his business, etc... knows that HIS livelihood isn't in jeopardy from illegal aliens. Lower-middle class slobs like me are being marginalized by "Pedro" who works for less than half of an American 'living wage'.
In my state, 10 years ago, the trades of brickmasonry, sheetrock and concrete finishing were predominantly black trades. Today they have been absolutely hijacked by illegals. What do you think happened to the millions of blacks who used to earn living wages in those trades? Have they just moved up a rung on the ladder? I think not. The ghetto is growing again, sadly, as former opportunities evaporate, aided by socialist-leaning fatcats in Washington.

I think the main reason that illegal immigrants are coming to America is because there is no space in Mexico. They have 19 million people in their capital city which is the largest population in a metropolitan area in the western hemisphere. Mexicans are just exploding with babies every second and they need somewhere to go.

I'm upper middle class and I'm damn angry about illegal immigration. Companies that hire illegal workers are most likely avoiding paying taxes on the employees. They usually hire and substandard wages and increasing their profits exponentially and the companies escape accountability for their criminal acts. School systems by court ruling are required to educate the children irregardless sapping more and more resources. They are also have to establish special programs for language barriers, again more and more costs. Many Mexicans are moving several families into one home or apartment, 15 or 20 people which is illegal and presents fire and health hazards. Roads are crumbling, school buildings are getting old with little money to buld new ones, social security and medicare is being strained yet I'm suppose to feel sympathetic about illegals who commit a crime by entering this country without permission or authorization, demand rights they didn't fight for instead of staying and making their own country better. My ancestors spilled a lot of blood for this country and I will not sit by and let foreigners just walk in and change everything just to suit themselves.

Side note for you, a large amount of visa overstays (illegal immigrants) are working in high skilled jobs making very good wages, but still save that company money, they are paid less than the going rate for that position - in other words, they make significantly less than an American worker in that same position, yet again... cheap labor... Obviously, those who are most hurt by them are those competing with them and seeing their own wages and opportunities drop. That big business is complicit doesn't change the fact that illegal immigrants are the perpetrators and that citizens and legal immigrants hurt by illegal immigration are the victims.
If the H1B plan to let in unlimited skilled people so long as they get a bachelor's degree from our scruffiest college plus 190,000 on top of that each year goes through as tech industry is pushing for, you will see the pain climb the ladder. Right now, it hits public schools, hospitals and services. If you don't have a child in an impacted public school, are temporarily young and healthy, and not yet on a fixed income or without work 'it doesn't impact you.'
Then all you see are the cheaper prices at Wal-Mart.
