How can someone be Christian and have issue with immigrants to this country?
Answer:
This is a very volatile issue on Yahoo and in the media. The problem that people have is that they mix the issues of the people and the laws.
There are countries in Latin America that are poorly run and corrupt. There is nothing that citizens can do to improve their country. Our citizens can not relate to their lives. The individuals will do anything that they can to survive and help their family. They will risk their lives to be able to find jobs that pay enough to help their families. They will become unwanted aliens to get money to help them and their families. They are just doing what any other human being would do in the same circumstances.
The other issue is the people that charge them money to bring them to the US. Or the companies that take advantage of their position to pay them less that standard wages, or not cover them if they get hurt, or get rid of them without unemployment insurance. The landlords that give them rooms where 10 people live in a single room.
There are a lot of other illegal immigrants from other countries that are under the radar of the anger expressed in this forum. To come here illegally from Latin America is not easy. The country would rather have a lot of people come from countries that we have screwed up like Iraq & Afghanistan.
We need to solve the issues that keep us apart. But let's deal with the issues and not the person that is only trying to help their families.
He would not break the law of the land insofar as it does not run counter to his Father's admonitions.
The issue isn't with immigrants - it's with ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
Jesus even stated in the Bible to obey the laws of the King, translation - obey the laws of the land.
These people could survive in their homeland if their own government would take care of them. They need to bring change to their own country - instead of coming here illegally and upending ours
Addendum
You need to read your papers nationwide. There are thousands of illegals defrauding the welfare system (if they were working - why would they need welfare), many crimes and such are being committed by illegals, in fact - there is an escalating rise in rapes, armed robbery, drunk driving incidents that result in deaths, and more - all attributed to illegal immigrants.
Get your pie in the sky view adjusted to reality girl. There is a small percentage of illegals that come here for work - most are running from prosecution in Mexico, running drugs, or simply looking to get into the welfare system fraudulently to send money back to the families in Mexico.
Jesus was for following the LAWS OF THE LAND!
You also need to make sure you know the distinction between an immigrant and an ILLEGAL ALIEN!
We have issues with illegals - He also preached about obeying the laws fo the land.
Cheers!
Jesus would encourage them to obey the laws
Jesus would be an anti-illegal protester. Isn't he the one that gave us the 10 commandments? So he is all for following the rules and NOT breaking them.
He did not like the thousands of Romans in his county
OH PLEASE... Just do it Legally GET IT..
Jesus would have a real problem with criminals stealing from people.
I am a Christan and I have no issue with immigration. For some reason this seems to confuse those with a blocked brain. I have serious issues with illegal aliens. They do nothing but steal our health care, fill up our prisons, steal our identities, and keep our children from getting a quality education.
And you have invited how many into your home? Fed? Clothed? Christ called for individual acts... not governmental ones.
I'm all for helping people in need. Lets do it in their country. The American taxpayer is not resposible for their misfortune, their own government is. The suggestion that Christian Americans are not generous is disingenuous.
Jesus preached that we are to obey the laws of the land.
What kind of hypocrite church would give asylum to willful lawbreakers?
Christians beleive in charity and the law.
As long as they are breaking the law, feed them and send them home.
This is not HEAVEN,there is limited room in this inn,so make a reservation.
Good whats your address and we will post it for illegal immigrants needing a place to reside, hope you have plenty of parking.
We have legal means to become a citizen and from what I can tell they are some of the easiest to fulfill around, that does not mean I think they are easy I just think that they are fair as compared to other countries.
What of laws? Are we not supposed to follow the laws of the land?
What about the laws of the land?
When Jesus violently threw the moneylenders out of the temple, that was an act of defiance in conflict with existing law. "Render unto Ceasar" was not an instruction to ignore Christian principles in favor of the law.
First off, someone in this country illegally does not have "legal access" to my home. So I can deny them from ILLEGALLY entering my home (country). Jesus also preached to obey the law of the land. The law of the land is that if you are here ILLEGALLY, you need to go home. As far as sharing with those in need, the US is the most giving country in the world. Who is the first one on scene after a major disaster.the US. Who gives more aid to foreign countries than any other country combined?..the US.
So as far as your statement about having Christian having issues with immigrants, we don't. We have issues with ILLEGAL immigrants.criminals in other words.
I concur.
I have a problem with the legality. I have a problem with dodging taxes, commiting crimes but not being able to be prosecuted for them. I have a problem with them receiving benefits of our country without helping to pay for it!
For those that do pay taxes but are still illegal, I say do the appropriate application process and eventually you will be approved.
Most people can;t put themselves in poor people shoes or they just don't take the time to even think what is like not to be able to provide for your family.Christians should follow the steps of the church.Forgive,do not judge and provide refuge if you are able to those less fortunate. The question that should follow yours is how can you be christian and not practice what Jesus wants from you?
The Bible clearly states to obey the LAWS OF THE LAND!!!
It's not about being a Christian. It's about being in this country illegally. If you do something illegal, your going to jail, period. For those who are in the country illegally, you belong in jail, and then deported, period. This has nothing to do with being a Christian. I'm a Christian, but I do not want illegals in this country. They need to stay in their own country and fight for their rights in the country not ours!
I take it you have never heard of Aztlan, Raza, A.N.S.W.E.R. or any other anti-American hispanic groups!
I don't know if you realize this or not, but 12,000,000 people waving the flag of a foreign country in our streets is an act of war! And 12,000,000 illegals could be considered a small army!
Here - educate yourself

When you break the law you are a criminal - criminals must be accontable for their actions!
Let the Mexican government create jobs for their own people!
Let the Mexican government feed all the babies who are born for no other reason than to take advantage of welfare and a free ride
Let the Mexican government deal with all the people out of work who have to deal drugs, rob and murder to live!
Why do American's have to pay for that!
Jesus would tell ppl to respect the laws of the land the refugees are going to.
He would share whatever he had and expect his followers to do the same. The Bible clearly commands that Israelites were to treat "strangers" (foreigners/immigrants) as equals because the Israelites were once "strangers" in Egypt. In Matthew 25: 31 - 46 Jesus also included "strangers" in the list of people that Christians should be kind towards.
'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'
In the end, the universal law of loving others as you love yourself trumps arbitrary man made laws, jingoism and petty nonsense like artificial borders.
Also, to those who have argued that Jesus preached following the law of the land, the story of Jesus and the woman taken in adultery clearly shows that this was not always the case. Jesus placed justice and mercy over the particulars of legal wording. Remember in Israel, the law clearly stated that a person taken in adultery was to be executed by stoning -- Jesus stopped them carrying out this law by saying, "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone." In the case of "illegal" immigrants, I say let he who has never broken a law make the first arrest.
What do you think Jesus would have done if someone DEMANDED that he heal or feed them? There is a difference between sharing and being robbed, and I think He knows that. People are entitled to ASK, not take or demand whatever they want.
Who's law is higher, Gods or lands. Gods law is over lands law and thus you need to start helping your fellow man. It must be nice to be in this country. All the things you get to have and yet you have not taken one step outside your land to look at others. Is it a mans fault for being born in another country. So you say that he should stay and enjoy his slave life. She should stay and enjoy being turned into a sex slave. He should stay and never know happyness because he is forced into a camp to make drugs. If somebody wants to make a better life for their family and themselves. More power to them because you need to stop looking at them ie illegals and start looking at your congress that is doing jack for this country. When was the last time they passed a law that did for the people. Hell, only time they vote on a bill is when they get some cash or have to scratch a back or two.
For all the quotes that you have given from the bible. What was the quote Jesus gave that was over all other quotes. If any of you can name it!
very interesting , lets bring jesus into this ...
maybe you need to read these replies you got ...illegal immigrants..they drain our econmy ..use our system to gain medical and free service that are inplace for tax paying americans.we cant solve the worlds problems..letting more illegals into america will only make our country worst in the long run.read you replies you got .if you still think you need to help them then donate your pay check to them 100%
in the bible ..by thy sweat of thy brow man shall eat bread.let these illegals sweat/ work ...in their country ...it will pay off and improve their economy...why cant you see these immigrants are just just leeches on our hard working tax paying americans.if you all cant see this then donate your pay check 100% to them .
I am well aware that Jesus probably would never reject anyone, but this is not an issue of Faith, this is an issue of Laws and not breaking them, because HERE in this country when you break a law, you are a CRIMINAL. Seriously think about what your saying..Without Laws and Guidlines, where would we be.I'll tell you , there would be no more MEXICO and the US Would be more overpopulated then it already is.
It ALSO says in The Bible that we are to OBEY the laws of the land. Where in The Bible does it say to do whatever you want? With no regard for anyone else? Would Jesus also encourage people to lie and be deceitful? Would He say it was ok to steal? If you are going to bring The Bible in to this, look at it from many different angles. Where does it say that it is ok to go in and steal another country's land? Let's look at the whole Bible if we are going to look at any of it.
Just as give unto Caesar that which belongs to Caesar give unto God that which belongs to God. Isn't that enough of an example to tell you to obey the laws of the land AS you are obeying God? Oooo that also touches on paying your taxes.
Also if we want to go there, how about those that do not work shall not eat? So even if an illegal is working is he giving to Caesar what is Caesar's to pay for the schooling, medical, food stamps etc that they are benefiting from by the kids they are having here in the states? Now realize I did not say THEY are getting this help - but the children they are having here that are born as citizens - if they are getting the help so are the parents.
About loving our neighbors? Please let me in on the secret of being loved? Why is this not taught to those that are coming here with deceit? How much love are they showing? Oh and then let's add in the hatred they are showing FOR this country in so many ways.
How about this? You reap what you sow. What is it exactly that any of us are going to reaping in this? Either them or those of us that were born here and really have no place else to go.
Christians aren't necessarily stupid.
We can guess about what Jesus would have done, or we can guess what was in the mind of those who wrote about Jesus (keeping in mind that some of them were nothing more than poor fishermen and maybe not the brightest lights on the porch). We can even guess whether Jesus was the Son of God or an imposter who was just stupid enough to get Himself crucified.
I'm a Christian, and I maintain the following to be true:
(1) No one should be allowed into the U.S. except in a legal manner.
(2) Immigration of those who are not ready, willing, and able to earn their own way in the U.S. should be restricted, but not necessarily banned. We DO have room for some of "your poor and your homeless", so long as they don't plan to remain that way.
(3) Well-documented refugees from war and oppression should get fair consideration, but we must ensure that they aren't Trojan horses, intending to harm us. Europe has a lot of those Trojan horses. Evidently we have let some in as well, and a frightening percentage have stated in polls that they fell justified in killing us.
(4) Existing illegal immigrants of long standing, who have settled here, started a family here, and become part of America, deserve fair consideration (primarily because it is impractical to deport them all). However, being illegal, they do not deserve extra consideration ahead of those who are waiting to come in legally.
