Understandable, but no you are never allowed to lie. It strange that Muslims are treathened when they convert to another religion or none at all, they all have they freedom to make their own choices.
I think if the country you're entering is a non islamic country, just mention the reason, because it should be acknowledged, for some people their lives may be at risk and so they should leave.
