Do the EU countries need a common immigration policy...?

to keep the illegals from coming here?

(or should we just sink the boats?)

Answer:
yes, most definitely. I am not racist(you have to add that nowadays). Just a black guy from south London who thinks things have gone too far. My mum and dad were invited from the west indies(commonwealth) in the fifties to do low paid jobs(no benefits) they worked hard, despite racism and have brought us(their children) up to be proud British citizens. I cant understand how any body fleeing persecution(asylum seekers) can end up in Britain(Island Nation!) unless fleeing the republic of Ireland, they should always end up on the European continent. Also I dont think its fair that Britain's are not afforded the same benefits abroad as all foreign nationals seem to be entitled by just managing to arrive here;legally or illegally
I think they have one it is send all immigrants to the UK.
Finally you Euros are waking up! You all will be on your knees doing prayers if you don't change things!!..very quickly!!
They need to dismantle the EU. I kind of like the idea of dismantling the US. Vermont is thinking about breaking away, and I have no idea why Texas is still part of the US. We don't particularly like Texas, and Texas doesn't seems to think they're too good to be part of the US. As for England, I keep hearing a lot of complaints that the Polish is flooding England and there is always complaints about Muslims and Indians. Perhaps we should have a similar situation here like they have in Ireland. My sister told me Dublin is made up of mostly foreigners and the rest of the country is for the Irish. Although you can't find a town with out a chinese and a chinese restaurant there. I guess my home town, LA might be the town volunteered to accept all foreigners.

We might listen to what the Europeans are doing, because Alot of these EUropean nations has become stricter in their immigration policies, despite what the pro-side is saying.
It does, as any other policies... The EU is still too far from being The U.S. of Europe.
Another question is how strict and selective this policy should be. I would opt for as much freedom as it is possible and just as many restrictions as it is really needed.
I think you'll find that they do already - it's called the Free Movement of Persons and its contained within the Treaty Articles.

But then, you didn't want to know the real answer, did you? You just wanted an opportunity to make a stupid populist comment.
Free movement of European citizens only is guaranteed by treaty ,no Africans or Asians are need to run the economy there are enough European people unemployed to fill any vacancies who have a right to benefit from any European jobs in the common market.
