I hate to break it to you but Aztlan is the mythical place of origin of the Aztec peoples. Their mythical language was Nahuatl, not Spanish (which is a real language).

I'm not sure how many Spanish speaking inhabitants live here, but I had to learn Spanish and I'm just a gringa from Tallahassee. I use Spanish everyday at work and home. My German Grandma doesn't understand why we should have to learn Spanish when no one ever tried to learn German to speak to her family, but there's just an overwhelming difference in the number of immigrants that speak Spanish compared to those that speak German.

This nation was founded in English,its laws and its Constitution are written in English. There are many other languages spoken here other than Spanish. There are far more English speakers than Spanish in this nation. To be bilingual does not mean English/Spanish it simply means in this context English and any other language.

Emily made some great points and I will add a few. When I lived in Europe I had a Spanish room mate. He found it offensive that the Mexicans in any way claimed relation to the Spaniards and Europeans. He laughed at the fact the Mexicans claimed to speak his language and said what they spoke was not truly spanish. He also said quite a few other anti mexican things. This is the thinking of the Spaniards so for Mexicans to keep on and on about a Euro/spanish link is ludicrous.
I'm a white american who speaks spanish, learning this language has opened countless doors for me. The best door being the door to making more money.
