The EU is failing. In England, they are complaining about Polish immigrants flooding their country. Because of the EU rules, they can't regulate the Polish immigration. If you thin illegal immigraion is bad, imagine what it would be like with NAU. In Sweden, an Eastern EUropean company was hired to build something in Stockholm. They paid the Workers below Swedish minimum wages. The company didn't care about any of Swedish laws. They sort of patched up some of the rules when companies use foreign labor sources.
It would be harder to protect our nation. People can enter our country easier using gaps in Mexico or Canada. It would be harder to enforce trade restriction. When Nafta came about, China got around the tarriffs and quota system by shipping to mexico, to hide the origin of the product. It's common now to ship a product between Canada and Mexico, so to mislead the public that a product was made in the USA, when less than 50% actually was made here. Large companies has used WTO rules to hide behind when abuses are found. Europe is trying to prevent genetically modified food from entering their country. THe US has used the WTO to force these products on Europe. I believe the Wto is far more easily corrupted, than our governmetn. If NAU is formed, I believe it is far more vulnerable to corruption, and corporate friendly laws would be made to trump our laws. The NAU would further centralize wealth.
Our services, schools, hospitals, entitlement programs including social security will be drained, and incapable of serving our own people. The commitment to globalization will dilute the vote and continue the labor race to the bottom against the poorest laborer in the poorest country, while the rich exploit oil and timber and resources of all three countries.
I see nothing good about it, actually, even if it only goes so far as SPP and the 'corridor' already are in the works to go.
drawback? other countries will deliver thier good to mexico, then the good will be delivered from mexico to the US, avoiding tariff taxes, also big rigs will come into this country from mexico that are unsafe. China is building a deep water port there as we speak.

If North American Union become real Mexico would become empty like a Kmarts parking lot..
The language barrier is going to be a big problem.
Getting everybody into the one system will be too.
What it does to the heads of state is the biggest thing though. How are they going to decide who rules? Are we going to have a union like EU where they basically take turns or what?
