North American Indian Will travel if allowed?

I am a North American Indian that wants to travel however since I am neither an american or a canadian citizen I dont know how i can travel without a passport. since I cannot pledge citizenship to either country without giving up my status as a Six nations indian. Does anyone out there know how I can get around this whole passport thing..or there is a special circumstance clause or something ...any information would be greatly appreciated

Answer:
wow excellent quesrion, I have never thought about this before, not for natives anyway...unfortunately as hypervigilant as everyone has become you are gonna have a difficult time if you go through the usa

here is an interesting article related to this however it is from 2002:http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/hpaied/hn/hn_...

do you have a Haudenosaunee passport?

aside to the thumbs down person - I love how people gave the wrong answers and didn't bother to read the question before answering and the gave me the thumbs down...if you know nothing about n american tribes ppl maybe you shouldn't be answering this!
You was Born where?

If you was born in United States of America i believe the US Constitution is the law of the land!!?
Don't take this as gospel, but I believe that all American Indians born within the borders of the United States are automatically considered United States citizens. This was not always the case, but the law was changed quite a few years ago. Many Native Americans travel abroad, and I don't believe that they give up any of their tribal rights by obtaining US travel documents.

I suspect that much is the same is true if you were born north of the Canadian border, only then you'd have to deal with Canadian authorities. It will probably take you a long time to obtain a US passport, but that's not because you're an Indian, but because the State Department has fouled up the whole process for everyone regardless of race, creed, or national origin.
if you were born in the US you are a citizen
I think she was born in Mexico, from the way she phrases it. Except for a few tribes that straddle our border to the south, I don't think there is anything special. Can't you use your status to get a visa in Mexico? What ID do you use there?
If you are native american, you will still need a passport to go to and from canada.. If you are Native American (indian) you should have a census number.. and you can contact your BIA agency and they should answer your question.. I travel out of the US but, I have a passport..
I've danced with more then a few long house people out here in Cali. So i don't think there's any problem with losing anything. I'd talk to your local agent.
What folks don't understand is on our side of the fence it's what ever reservation/ rancheria, and the other is the USA. We CAN ask for passports to come onto the rez.
I'm a citizen of Pit River Rancheria FIRST, american second.
But I imagine if I wanna go out of the 48, I'll have to get a passport. We both know there's some longhouse boys over in the sand right now, there HAS to be exceptions.
Good Luck
If you are North American Indian...why wouldn't you be an American Citizen?.I am from two nations here ..In the United States and when I was a kid living in Upstate New York in Allegany we would visit some of my mothers friends in Canada.. I don't remember having to use passports...but I'm sure since (9/11) alot has changed..A friend of mine(from Canada) said that if I came to Canada now I would probably need a passport..I really don't see any other way around it..If I were to travel out of the States I would need a passport that is sure....
