How easy is it to travel through central america with a dog?

I would not suggest it. I know from the US to the UK is a 6 month quarantine. In the US you can take your dog or cat on the plane with you if it will fit into a carrier under your seat or you can purchase a ticket and fly it in the cargo area, that is not recommended as it is not pressurized as well or heated and it is very hard on your pet. You cannot take a dog of cat into Hawaii without it going into quarantine, you can only fly within the 48 contigous states and Alaska. Travelling like you will be you would be well advised to check ahead, as restrictions vary so much

leave it at home...... odds are he wouldn't be coming back with you...
well I don't live in Mexico, but as far as I know they are very lax about quarantines and vaccinations and the like. frankly I doubt they'd care. best to check it though. oh, and because they're so lax about vaccinations the native dogs might be a threat to your dog as far as worms and fleas and so forth. so if you do take your dog make sure and get your dog vaccinated for any diseases that they might have in Mexico that they don't have where you live.
You would be putting yourself in the spotlight to be hassled at every frontier. Everything from paperwork, quarantine, mysterious regulations and most of all bribes...as they know you won't leave your pet and you want to move on.
Better to leave your dog at home.
