Did England ,Spain, France,Portugal, legaly steal some gold from their colonies?
Answer:
Some? You mean almost all of it, plus the trees (Victorian England with their heavy wooden furniture, pianos etc.) natural minerals, iron, steel, copper even the those people's art (British Museum etc. ) and culture (tea drinking etc) - they stole EVERYTHING!
Yeah it's kinda funny when you think about it.. Spain is going to court to try and get that treasure they recently discovered in a shipwreck, yet they stole it from the new world themselves. Ha.
No. The gold and the exclusive markets led to stagnation in the economies of colonial empires. When this source of income became unavailable, they were already behind the countries, which had to fight for markets and improve the quality of their goods. This happened to Spain, England, Portugal and several others.
On my opinion of course yes. But i am sure thaty they will deny that. hehehe
"Legally steal"? That's an oxymoron.
