English is not the Official language of the United States!!?
28 states have voted in Official English only laws. Spanish is the offical language of Puerto Rico, French and English is used in Louisiana and New Mexico has laws for the use both Spanish and English , Also there are (4) minority majority states) Hawaii California New Mexico and Texas.( where the combined minority population) is the Majority
Isn't that information behind the Anti- Immigration concerns.?

Super. I don't care what is declared official regarding language. It makes no difference.
Why don't more Americans just choose to learn more languages (including those whose english is poor or non existent)? It can only be a benefit in your life. Education is a good thing people!
idiot thoughts, I didn't dictate anything. If you knew how to read english you would see that I posed a question that suggested everyone should learn INCLUDING THOSE WHO DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH.
Why don't you try to learn how to read english?
Maybe you should read what you wrote, good grief, you contradicted yourself.
So. Let's set about demanding that English be made the official language. All it takes is an act of Congress. Contact your reps today.
As you said, English is not America's official language. We don't have an official language. Every time politicians try to get English enacted as the official language, this is shot down by the PC leftist crowd, worried about those poor, downtrodden minorities.
Just as non-sensical as you think.
Yes, but English SHOULD BE the Official Language of the U.S.
Where's your question?
English rocks... English rocks. And I like them little cake things too.
I don't understand what point you are trying to prove or disprove. Very few people speak proper english anyway so it might as well be spanish.
I really don't understand why we would allow this. If someone is considered to be a legal US citizen, they should speak the English language. (When in Rome, do as the Romans do.) This has become one of my major pet peeves. If they want to communicate in their native tongue, they should go back to their native country. Our native tongue is ENGLISH!
No, but it should be
If you are legally in the U.S. you must learn english simple concept, no need to debate it. Enforce our laws!
Yet you ask this question in english? And I doubt anyone will answer it in any other language,Im not sure what your point is?You do have a point though, you are the minority.
There is no need to make English the official language. Do not make a problem out of nothing.
grr... redneck Republicans.
English SHOULD be our official language.
By the way, Sarah...I speak English, Spanish, and French...and I hate it when people like you state that everyone should learn a second language. Who the hell are you to dictate that? What if people have no desire to learn other languages, but would rather spend that time learning something important to them? It is their decision...not yours, and definately should not be the decision of those who want to come here and not learn English!
English is the National language of the United States. It is not the official language of the US Government. Use a better source than Wiki, they are unreliable. The Senate voted several weeks ago to make English the official language of the US govt, but then they passed another bill that gutted the first one. What a bunch of lying cowards!
I don't think there should be an official language. I think this country should be as diverse as it's members. But I also think that you should know how to converse with the majority of people in the country who speak English, so it should be introduced as a language in High Schools as a language art, like spanish and french are, but not a four year high school requirement. That's my Opinion...
Here you go again totally missing the point. Most people don't have an Immigration problem but a problem with illegal immigration. It doesn't matter what language the person speaks if they were here illegally that's wrong and unfair on people who have immigrated legally.
Wouldn't it make more sense for people moving to another country to at least learn the majority language spoken there or would it be ok if I just spoke Cymraeg? I'm sure everyone who worked with me wouldn't mind learning it just so I don't have to change from my native tongue.
Puerto Rico is not a state, why you include them?
According to the Hawai'i State Constitution:
OFFICIAL LANGUAGES
Section 4. English and Hawaiian shall be the official languages of Hawaii, except that Hawaiian shall be required for public acts and transactions only as provided by law. [Add Const Con 1978 and election Nov 7, 1978]
