With the immigration laws already on the books--why do we need new bills? just enforce the law?
Answer:
I couldn't agree more. Why can't we just enforce the laws set by our own government? Can you say special interest groups. For some reason the small minority that shouts the loudest seems to be heard. We need the silent majority to finally raise it's voice and be heard. Let your representatives know how you feel. After all, we are only asking them to enforce the law... how could anyone argue?
The problem is in funding. In a perfect world, every bill would include proper amounts of funding for the appropriate agency to carry out or enforce those laws (be it an administrative agency or an executive agency, like the police). But when you try to tackle such a huge and widespread problem like illegal immigrants (or drugs, for that matter), there simply aren't enough resources to enforce those laws already on the books.
In addition, immigration laws tend to be controversial and divisive, and when they do get enforced, certain political and social groups get upset. Because of the public controversy surrounding it, those laws tend to get neglected sometimes.
government likes making big deals out of small issues and is just too lazy to enforce its own imigration laws in the 21st century.
they didn't have much trouble back in the 1800's though.
bush thinks he is the ruler of the world. we need to look into having charges brought up on him. he has not defended our borders.
Good question. I'm thinking that the government has forgotten their responsibility in enforcing our laws, and are instead listening to a president who only follows the rules he picks out of our list, and fit his bill. If he wants illegals in the country, no rules apply, he just overrides the law and instead comes up with some stupid concession to solve the problem. The law was written to be followed by all, it is the guideline created by past administrations and agreed to by the citizens of the United States. Somehow this president has gotten around this, and our government representatives are allowing themselves to be bulldozed into believing that they have to follow the word of the president, instead of realizing that he has to follow the law. Makes no sense to me, and obviously it doesn't make sense to you either, so what can we do? We can get the idiots who forgot how to uphold the law in the face of someone with more power than they have, just because of who he is, out of office. Everyone is accountable and made to follow the rules, if they are going to back down because the president thinks he's above the law, they don't need their jobs anymore, do they?
Does no one notice the great strides that are being made to protect our borders from illegal immigrants? The government has implemented measures such as fencing, motion sensors, security lights, additional patrol, etc. It's a tough battle, no doubt, but keep in mind that just because it's not 100% efficient doesn't mean that there aren't efforts.
Finally, to everyone who is whining about the gov's efforts, join to border patrol. Or why not push a bill that increases tax dollars to further support these efforts? I'm sure all the whiners wouldn't mind paying higher taxes, right? =)
well my dear our gov isnt held accountable for causing a multi trillion dollar debt, or protecting our troops or emergency response (like katrina). i see no reason or way that holding our borders is gonna make them change theyre ways. Point blank- we have no border in all actuallity any who wants to be here will be here.
Because immigration gets votes. If they stopped immigration, that would be a lot of votes wasted wouldn't it. The problem draws money and attention to it and therefore draws money and attention to any candidate that votes on it. It is the same reason so many things aren't getting solved lately.
If you run for National office, I will guarantee you my vote in your column.
We catch these people and do ABSOLUTELY nothing with them.
Sorry, I have to quit. My blood is boiling at the absolute idiots we have running this country. Any one who really wants to fund this can stop the Billions and Billions and Billions in foreign aid, UN monies and the damn welfare given to these ILLEGALS. Did you know you don't have to prove you are here legally to get welfare???
Because they claim the laws are unfair. Just because they did not want to pay a fine everytime the needed to file for something or change jobs, or change addresses. These were fines for like 35-75 bucks. What makes anyone think that they wan to pay 5000 bucks or that they will pay it? There will still be illegals because they are not going to pay that and not going to keep up with their paperwork.
