Are you aware of this amendment to this horrible immigration bill?
Particularly worrisome to supporters, including the Bush administration, is a bipartisan amendment by Sens. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Max Baucus, D-Mont., that would change the bill's new program for weeding out illegal employees from U.S. workplaces.
The amendment would free employers from a mandate to check the identities of all their employees and require them to verify only new workers and those the government has a reason to believe are illegal immigrants. It would allow employees to present any state-issued drivers license as proof of identity, rather than requiring the nationally standardized "REAL ID," which some states have not adopted.
The nerve of these guys!

Answer:
Here's my take, if I need to spend a little longer at the airport to have my bags checked as well as me than it is a small price I am paying for my security. People complain that there are laws and that they are not enforced, but once they are enforced they are called bigots (as the first poster stated) or racists. There are laws laid down and they must be enforced, if you have nothing to hide than don't worry about it. Let our laws work and enforce them.
Sounds like a reasonable ammendment--except mabe to the bigots who want to use the ID provisions to harass the 80% of Hispanics who are citizens or are here legallly.
And are you aware that a huge amount of our taxes and bill's are going to the Isrealian pockets to kill innocent kids in palestine.
Yes I stay on Top, of these things, I will not rest until, this
scam it stopped. These guys just don't have any respect, for
the American People. It is no surprise.
I have read this bill - now where can I throw up? The congress is determined to pass this bill with or without the people's approval. OK, but I'm going to remember who voted for it and I won't ever vote for them again, I don't care what other good they may have done - because as usual the chimp is trying his best to get the USA into a one world government no matter what.
If they are illegal aliens they shouldn't have a drivers license in the first place.
well, they can present it but it doesn't mean it'll pass...
our govt has lost their minds. thanks for the info
The whole Bill S.1639 reaks of Washington self interest , created in the dark basement of Congress !! Here`s the deal ! There are some people who live in a dream world ( the 18% who are for this S.1639 bill ) , and there are some us ( the 82% who are against this S.1639 bill ) who face reality : and then there are those in Washington who try to turn reality into the dream world !!
Does not matter, it won't pass!
And we know WHO the traitors are!
What is curious is that the Director of Homeland Security wrote the Senate on the 19th, saying the amendment would remove tools for enforcement. He wrote a letter of opposition to the bill. Then gave a later interview and endorsed it?
Behind closed doors there too? Buying or blackmailing support?
This bill is rotten to the core.
