Does "For English Press 1" annoy the hell out of you?
Answer:
Yes. I believe ALL people who choose to live here MUST speak one language and one language only. ENGLISH or a derivative of something like it. like AMERICAN.
No. If it bothers you, go out and teach English. There are plenty of organizations who would welcome a native speaker.
It annoys me very much. Companies, such as Bank of America, are now taking it a step further with offering credit cards to those without social security numbers.
It is called "doing business".
There are legal immigrants who speak English but are more comfortable speaking in Spanish, especially about complex issues. If companies think they can serve their customers better in any way possible, how can that be a bad thing.
Now, if you start hearing, "For English, press 2" come back and ask me again.
yeah it does bug me but it could be worse, we could be 9th or 10th down the list.
how does that old saying go, when in rome do as the romans . so i guess it goes to follow, when in america ...
This issue was felt in Miami with the influx of Cuban refugees. It's only good business to cater to customers. Nowadays, if you want to get ahead in Miami, you've got to be bilingual. That's happening to the whole USA now.
To my way of thinking it should be assumed that you speak English. If you need some other language then you get the numbers. I, for one, am sick and tired of this country catering to foreigners. If these people want to live here they need to learn our language, just like immigrants from many years past.
Yes it annoys me!!
We have immigrants from Germany, Italy, France, Japan, China, etc etc living in the US. We do not have "Press 1 for English, Press 2 for German, Press 3 for French" Why? Because THEY LEARNED ENGLISH!!
The whole automated answers thing bugs me, but especially in that the first question isn't always for English press one. Then you get to hear the foreign language like you're in a foreign country.
And why are Mexicans the only ones who can't learn English? You sure don't hear Polish, German, Italian, etc. as an option. Maybe it's too difficult for Mexicans to learn to speak the language of the country they are in. Isn't this called being prejudice by these companies? Maybe they should start receiving a few lawsuits from some of the other people in the US who have English as their second language. Why do they get left out of this special treatment?
What is worse is that our government has legal documents printed in so many languages. Why are tax dollars being wasted on such garbage and who authorized it? Next thing you know, you'll be driving down the street with signs in all languages. How many languages can you fit on the sign for: No Right Turn when Pedestrians are Present, Yield, Stop, Merge Lane, etc.
If businesses wish to spend money on printing everything in various languages, that's good business - things are shipped globally. Now if only we in the US had something to ship globally. It's too bad most of what we have available to us is produced outside of our country. Now that's scary!
Yes, because I hate English!
Hell yeah!
That and the 10 pages of non-English instruction manuals I have to go through before getting to the one paragraph of English.
Save a Tree - Learn English!
Yes. I even like "press 1 for Spanish" better. It bugs me more when even the phone companies use automated answering. I kind of like a real person to answer the phone. The one that really bugs me is the automated call that expects me to wait for their computer to answer.
Actually, the financial burden this practice has put on our government is astounding...don't forget all the signs,...all the things being translated, and it is racist, as I never see them translating in Italian, Chinese, etc...
Yes. As soon as you arrive in America you should have to take English classes. We're losing our national identity and heritage. Whatever happened to the great American Melting Pot?
It totaly pisses me off!I live in Europe part-time,and they don't cater to my ***!
yes its a conspiracy and big business is in on it... Please!
Its called capitalism, u either stay ahead of teh game or get left behind. obviously the spanish, polish, etc.. speaking ppl are making and spending money in the US, which means that whoever is willing to welcome their business (money) is goin to get their business. the US has immigrants of many countries and businesses have just learned to accomadate these ppl. Smart business if u ask me, i doubt any "American morals/ethics" have anything to do with it, its more about the bottom line!
It doesn't really bother me. Sometimes I toy with the notion of pushing 2 for Spanish. But then I chicken out and press 1. :)
Oh, si si! Eeeet dusss senor!
I love that when I finally do get through I get to talk to someone in India!
