What happened to respect for the country you live in...illegal OR legal?
What happened to the respect for the country you live in? My great, great, grandparents would role over in their graves if I was out in public blubbering Italian and hanging Italian flags from my balcony and car.
Answer:
"United we stand, divided we fall" It's obvious that some people just don't want to be American. Being proud of your heritage is one thing, but not even recognizing that you're in America is another. If you come to America, I assume it's because you want to be American. You came here to change your life, not the lives of the American's you emulate. Fly the flag that represents the freedoms you came here for... Old Glory
That is to bad.
Some people feel there native country doesn't respect them, and some people just want to show pride in there heritage and where they are from.
It isn't always about respect.
They have no respect and they know they can get away with it. This country has become way too soft. We bend over backward to accomodate foreigners and they take advantage of it. It is time to stop being politically correct and do the right thing for America. The ACLU is our enemy, they are destroying this country.
First of all, Puerter (Puerto) Rico is a common wealth of US.So what is your problem with it? Secondly, I am from the Latin community and I DON'T wave a Mexican flag.GET IT RIGHT.Stop with your urban myths and propaganda. Most Latinos I know don't practice this either, only a few do, stop putting us all in the same boat.We are Americans and we have every right, as do you, to live and work in this country. You are no more patriotic then I am..My father and brother both served in the Armed forces, and we are loyal, God fearing Americans..
Pitiful, your ragging on Mark and you can't even spell Puerto Rico..Which happens to be part of the USA..Unbelievable
Pride? You, my dear, are dripping with pride.Actually that is your problem, you have no humility..
Um. . o_O They're from Mexico. Their native language is Spanish. They're going to speak their native language.
Dude, if you, say, moved with your family to France, you'd speak in the language that comes easiest to you: You're native language. You wouldn't say bonjour to your mom in greeting, you'd say hello.
In the US, there's this crazy thing called freedom of speech, which also includes actions. They have the right to celebrate their heritage. Is it hurting you? Is it causing you pain and suffering? No. You're the one throwing a fit over it.
They're speaking their native language and showing their flags. That's far from bombing cities and making terrostic threats. If I lived in a country where I couldn't be the person I was brought up as, I'd leave.
What's happening is that more mexicans are coming into this country than we can accept at one time. It's because they're coming in illegally. This means that mexican immigrants, unlike previous immigrants, don't have to depend on the general American public for support and community because there is so many mexicans here already.
Since some of them aren't immigrating legally, they are in effect colonizing or land, not immigrating and assimilating with our people..
Every single one of us, outside of the Native Americans, are descendants of immigrants, so I wouldn't get too cocky if I were you.
The antis have taken it away
How dare they speak a language that you don't speak! Those filthy wettbacks!
[sarcasm].This country has a thing called freedom of speech. If I choose to speak Spanish,or Russian,or whatever in public so be it.BUT if some one asks me something in English or speaks to me in English ,of coarse I'll reply to them in English.I <3 America, and how dare anyone else challenge that.
I have spent time in PR very nice people have pride in them self.and have a nice country. Mexico when i was there 10 yrs ago. Traveled all over the people were very friendly the women were shy an reserve could travel out at night no problem today you need a escort .The ones i have seen here <not all> are from a different part that i never seen in Mexico Anger has overcome them an swearing all the time.Maybe there just not happy.Never been to Cuba spent time in Miami got alone well there.Nice respectful.
you have absolutely no argument...respect for the country is about respecting the constitution where it says you can have freedom of speech...if the Nazi assholes can waive their swastika flag then I can waive whatever nations flag I want to...
Who gives a rats *** what language someone is speaking in...you have too much time on your hands and wondering into SOMEONE ELSE'S business...dont be mad because you are not bilingual...I personally dont give a damn what your grandparents would think because they probably came from a different country too...live and LET live!
Ill live my life the way I want to live it...Ill speak whatever language I want to speak whatever time I want to, if you dont like it you dont have to talk back...nobody especially some low life uneducated idiot is going to tell me how to respect something...why dont you respect other peoples decisions first.
ahhh Cleo...When I go to Brasil, I speak portuguese...why? it is their language, and I am a GUEST in their country...it IS a matter of respect.I dont go there and expect them to speak english with me...Just the fact they make an effort to do so speaks volumnes...But I tell them that I speak portuguese and therefore I do so...can you imagine if I or you would tell these people in their home country that they had to speak english how they would react? ...All I can say to any Immigrant whether illegal or not, if you disrespect someones home or country...dont expect to be welcomed with open arms...and as you can see now...especially the Illegals, hardly anyone is welcoming you now...
Why would it be deemed disrespectful to speak one native language in public. freedom of speech, you forget this is America. It is not in my realm of consideration what your grandparent do in their grave, do not attempt to compare me with your value judgments, they are not the same. If I am conducting business when it is required I speak English, that is what I speak ,if I am with my own I speak Spanish,
I remember the time I worked in a copper mine, there were six Mexicans and one Anglo working in a reclaim pond and Tex said I don't want you speaking Spanish around me,I told him, we were going to and if he did not like it to go work by himself at the other end of the pond. He never addressed the subject again.
Ez wider That might be the reasons you and yours came to America, you Anglo expect every one that is an American to be like you, I do not want to be like you and your culture offers nothing that I would want, By the way my family was here before yours came.
I somewhat agree with your question but I dont think you should just focus on the Latin Americans because not tOO long ago there where many Europeans coming to this country that could not speak English.
Their respect is completely gone. They left it at the border. They have also taken the Americans peoples respect for its government too.
I find it amusing that so many bring up freedom of speech when it is often surpressed here at Y/A by trolls who report good answers from both sides of the immigration/illegal alien issues.
My experience has been that legal immigrants do respect our nation. Most citizens as well until law or tradition impedes their particular wants. My stepson's wife is naturalized, born in Mexico City. She does not allow anyone to speak Spanish in front of their young son, as she is raising him to speak English as she does. It was her choice to do this. He is being taught AMESLAN as her mother is deaf.
My French-born daughter-in-law refuses to speak French publicly here. She considers it rude and if my son speaks to her in French in front of the family to make a "private" comment to her, she will respond in English to his embarrassment at times. That also is her choice.
There has been a large number of non-English speaking people move into our area in the last few years. To be honest, no, I don't know their status. Yet, I see very few with an American flag or wearing any patriotic attire. I see quite a few wearing the Mexican flag or El Salvadoran flag on t-shirts. I'm not attempting to be racist, but there is a prevalence of Spanish-speakers here, followed by Asian primarily. Most simply wear common attire without any reference to any nation or patriotic theme. Some are politely behaved in public, others are not. I cannot judge their status by their behavior.
It may not be a matter of national pride and respect, but a reflection on society itself. A lack of common courtesy on the parts of many people, citizens, immigrants and illegal aliens included.
I am not crazy about hearing Spanish in public but if that really is the only language someone knows, what can they do? I don't believe they should be flying their flag while burning ours. I also think that if I am a customer in a business, the clerks shouldn't be speaking another language in fro nt of me.Not just Spanish but any other language because I am giving them money for their services and should feel comfortable doing it. I live in Hungary and my Hungarian is very weak, I try to communicate but I know how hard it can be.I see that people treat me better when I try to speak their language, it shows that I am respecting them.I do speak English in public when I am with my husband, he also speaks Hungarian so that the clerks can understand us.
