I have mixed emotions about this bill. I think it is better to take some kind of action. It would have cost more money to try and search out and deports all the illegals here. $5000 fine times 12 million immigrants = $60,000,000,000. I think the bill is going to pay for itself.
No bill in this country can ever apply to one ethnic group. Its unconstitutional. And I don't agree with the bill because it provides Amnesty which is forgiving someone for an illegal act. This has never happened in our country even during prohibition. If you were caught drinking the day before the ban was lifted, you still had to pay the price. All these people's children are going to see growing up was that their parents broke the law and were later forgiven for it. What will this teach them about responsibilty?

I think that anyone who votes to not immediately deport all illegals, their crotch fruit etc should be dragged thru the streets of Washington, shot on the lawn of the reflecting pool and their heads stuck on stakes for all to see till the birds consume them.
The bill applies to all immigration, not specific nationalities. I don't think it'll work - I think it'll just make the process more complicated. We can't enforce what we have now, making it cloudier will only make enforcement a bigger hassle. There are many illegal aliens here that can't pay the $5000 fine, there's no way they'll come forward. It'll remain the same problem it is now.
Edit: To Chuck Norris - we did have the Chinese exclusion act in our history - it was in effect for many decades. And, we did grant amnesty in 1986.
I think it is awful and rewards criminals. I have also relayed this opinion on to all of my representatives. This bill is for illegals no matter where they come from. We don't have bills that affect any particular race in this country.

I think it's proof that there needs to be mental screening on all government officials because it's a joke. I swear everytime they come up with a "new deal" it's worse than the last one. They are so out of touch with reality it's not funny.
I'm still waiting to see a "reform" part. All it appears to be to me is a 5000 fine and you're good to go. Far more complicated to enforce than the existing laws.
This bill is amnesty. It sucks. What they should have done was allow more people who are waiting to get into the country legally and grant them citizenship, shorten the wait time from 10 years to about a year or so. I dont think its fair to anyone who has been waiting.

Worst plan ever. Hmm lets reward millions of illegals who came here illegally and mooched off us legals by using our schools, medical facilities, take our jobs, and fill our jails. We are stuck paying our share and their share. Of course making them legal will just encourage even more of them to sneak in before we find a way to close our borders. And of course we still need to close the borders.
I say close the borders 1st. Then find and deport all these illegals. You cant find them you say? Hmm those immigration rallies were full of them and their supporters. While we are at it arrest the legals who support them and kick them out too.

All the illegal aliens already in the country should be given a green card by just paying the normal fees and not allow to return home if they don't want to do so.

What crime did they commit, they overstayed their visa or their time in this country and now they're getting a form of amnesty.. Murderers get amnesty, a lot of criminals get amnesty and get away with crimes, the illegal aliens should be given the opportunity to become law abiding citizens..
I agree the ones who are hardened criminals should be dealt with and thrown in jail, but the ones who are just trying to earn a living and do good in society should be given a chance to do so.
It's not amnesty in any way. They are not trying to leave their country, just use this one for money. Big difference. And with my job, when i go over seas i need a visa, and guess what, leave at a specified time. Don't hear anyone crying about that one. Why not? oh, cause i am an american. It doesn't matter for us.
But what do i think of the bill? I think it's worth a try. Maybe it will stop all the bickering about who is legal and who isn't and why no one is stopping illegals, etc. Then again, maybe cause a new twist, but we have to be open to that for it to work.
All i know is , i have defended Mexican immigrants from day one, but after watching the protesters today on the news, forget it. We try and do something to give a "start" for an american life, and now it's not fair?? come on.

And to say it's not fair to have the immigrants with education have alittle higher priority is not by any means un fair. Trying to get someone to better themselves and have a life here is not a bad thing. Anyone can dig a ditch and end up on welfare when they get older, but to be educated and live a long career here and reap the benefits, thats something else.

Why US citizens don't do anything against this bill? Today all this illegals strike on the street and asking (pushing) the government with this bill, tomorrows they will ask more then that!!! I am a foreign but I am disagree with this bill! I think the US government must think before they do this horrible mistake.
The way the article that yahoo has posted reads to me, is that most of this bill is directed at the Hyspanic population and it is not all Hyspanics that are the problems. I agree that the mexican border has been a problem for years and will continue to be one in the future, but we have people from asia, china, japan, tiwan, korea, vietnam, egypt, to mention a few that are coming over to the US to go to school using our funding a lot of the time and then go back to where they came from and practice law or medicine, or whatever and we don't even get anything out of it, except spending our taxpayers money. So, it is not all hyspanics, but it is the hyspanics that slip into this country the easiest because of location. The bill also states that these people will be forgiven for being here illegally and able to pay a fine and stay. That's not right. they should be rounded up and sent back to Mexico for the designated time period and have to reapply for a visa. This bill has not been completed either. We have people over here i the US and they are citizens, that don't have enough to eat, a place to live, or proper medical care, but yet these people that are not even citizens can get "FREE" medical care. The whole US government as a whole are only in this for the money. I think that everyone of the illegals that are here now should be shipped back to their own country and our government get off their butts and do something for our people for a changed. elderly folks going without medicine because their health insurance was canceled or they could not afford it on a fixed income. You have gotten me started on a subject that is a sore spot with me. I work hard for a living and by the time I reach retirement age, social security will be a thing of the past, because they are letting all these foreigners draw it and there is not enough of it to go around now for the people living now, let alone giving it to someone that never put anything into it. I'm sorry, but this just sours my milk. I don't think that there are that many people out there that are informed enough to know this. The bills are in play and they shouldn't be. Ask yourself this, If you were old and were on a fixed income and could not afford health insurance, and went to the local government for help and they sat there and told you that you did not qualify for that program and then turned right around and gave it to someone who had not even been in this country but a couple of years or months? How would that make you feel? Would it make you made? I work 40 to 60 hours a week and I can't afford my medication. I have to go through a Christian organization to get my meds from the manufacturers. I can't afford the health insurance that my company provides and I can't afford to take time off the job to go to school to get a better education to get a better paying job and then I would not be riding around in an 88 model car that I have to make repairs on about once a month and these hyspanics are riding around in late model cars and trucks because they don't pay taxes on their income and can afford it. Now, that I have cleared my throat, I'll shut up.
The bill is crap. Like the other person said it is rewarding the illegals for coming in the US like terrorist.
Also, among a ton of other people, I rather be classified as a illegal so I can save a ton taxes for 2007. It doesn't make sense. I rather pay 5000 than pay X amount.
